Forums - Nintendo - My rant about Namco on their games on the Wii

^^Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Around the Network

Well, I am not a Tekken or Soul Calibur fan. But if they do release it on the Wii, then I am a new convert. Super Mario Galaxy level of graphics is fine with me. I am more into the gameplay than the graphics. Graphics are more for movies.

Wii Code: 4819-7684-2396-4558

The videos of Tekken 6 and Soulcalibur IV are probably not doing the games' graphics any justice. If you look up Dead or Alive 4 and Virtua Fighter 5 videos and then play the games themsevles, you'll see a major difference. In their current form neither game can be released on the Wii. There would have to be downgrading. I don't know how much, or how much it will cost, but it's plainly obvious. There's also the issue of how you expect these games to play on the Wii. They do not work off a similiar control scheme as Smash Bros. The action is too frantic for motion controls to make up for lack of proper button placement, and you can use Guilty Gear XX Accent Core as a reference on how bad it can turn out. You can't sell the game expecting everyone to own a classic controller, gamecube controller or arcade stick, because those do not come standard in the box and only one option of those, the classic controller, is readily available in most retail locations.

As far as the broader topic of Namco not supporting the Wii, I call bullshit. They have three RPGs in development for the Wii. How many other studios are developing RPGs for the Wii? Maybe Square-Enix?

I understand you're a fighting game fan, as am I, but the Wii's standard control set-up does not lend itself well to the traditional six button layout most fighting games incorporate. We can look to later this year when SNK starts releasing their fighting compilations for Wii to know whether what I have to say is actually true or more of an isolated incident with Guilty Gear.

Although this game is being released for all platforms, the Wii, DS, PS2, and PSP versions are not being developed internally at Lucas Arts. These versions of the game run on a different game engine than the HD versions.

Also, one of the main reasons that Tekken has always been on Playstation is because the original versions of the game were ported from the arcade which ran on Namco's System 11 board.  Which is basically a Playstation 1.

It's still the same game despite being developed by different studios. I don't really see how that makes a difference. It's coming out for the Wii and it's coming out for the HD consoles. That meets the requirements he gave.

Well Namco should at least port Soul Calibur III to the Wii, since II showed that series can sell well on Nintendo systems. And you can just use the Classic Controller and those Hori fighting sticks.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

my entire point was saying that there are very few "hd" releases that make it to the wii as well. unless you factor in games that are on the ps2 as well, i suppose.

So wait, do you have some official specs for these games or something? Or do you just assume they can be done on the Wii from looking at a trailer?

And cmon, Tekken 6?!! Even if Namco was in love with the Wii, and had a bunch of million sellers on it (we're talking Sega love here) they still wouldn't release Tekken 6 on the Wii because the fanbase would be completely unfamiliar with it.

What do you talk about?

i know a lot of people who own a Wii and thay surely love to see tekken 6 on the Wii.

What do you know about the Wii fanbase? You know at least 2 or 3 millions who own a Wii and they give you their opinion about what kind of game they dlike to see on their console?

If you dont,shut up.

Yet that just means the games aren't ported, not that they don't sell. They have to be ported in the first place to show whether it sells or not.

Every Tekken game (except one on the GBA) has been on a Sony platform.

But that was a nice way to unnecessarily add in that jab at the end.

Final Fantasy was completely unfamiliar to PS fans because it had always been on Nintendo platforms.

Exactly.

This is not the end of the generation, but the beginning.

FF fans had largely been NES/SNES players, but-like most gamers- had not yet adopted the N64 or PSX at the time FF7 was announced.

Currently, most PS1/PS2 owners have not yet commited to a new console, so Tekken 6 on the Wii could push them into making the switch.

That said, I don't think the Wii controls lend themselves well to Tekken or Soul Caliber type fighting games.
