Forums - General - What Happened to Zelda? I feel ripped off.

Shigeru Miyamoto, was quoted as saying: "[Twilight Princess] will be, without a doubt, the last Zelda game [in the series] as you know it in its present form," back in 2005. That could mean Nintendo already has a radical Zelda makeover on the cards.

With that comment, I do not know what to expect of the next zelda game.

That's good though...it's the right time for a remake...Wind Waker was certainly different, though not far away from OOT.

Maybe a mix between TP and Resident Evil 4 gameplay? Over the shoulder Link? First person Link, with Wiimote action? I dunno...it could work.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Im thinking 3rd person link, but with sword wiimote action. Maybe with a 1:1 recognition. If it can be done, leave it to Nintendo to do so.

Well those videos are from 2005/2004, when they first showed the game off, without a title. I'm fairly positive it was about 50% done at that point but Shigeru Miyamoto decided it wasn't good enough and that they were gonna use the same basic engine but change the game completely which is why it took nearly 2-3 more years to come out. It's not uncommon Miyamoto is known for being very picky about the games and not being afraid to scrap an project if he doesn't like it.

If that "leak" was correct, I'm expecting the next Zelda game to be dark and realistic, along the lines of TP I suppose, just even more realistic. It makes sense, since the DS is getting the "Wind Waker" styled game.

How cool would a game like zelda be with graphics like RE4 had on gamecube?

Well TP is a GC game, with graphics on par with RE4....the graphic style and gameplay though?  That'd be crazy...probably wouldn't feel like Zelda anymore

Games change from their early stages. I believe the first Zelda: TP trailer came in 2004 right. I think so. Development carried on for 2 more years. Things just change ya know. But I still can't wait for the next zelda cause TP was apsolutely amazing. I'm wondering where the storyline will go though. Will it be after TP or Wind Waker or switch to the other split side of the storyline. Oh whatever will be great.

How about introducing a new playable charecter in Zelda, maybe even hack n slash co-op?

 OH that's blasphemy haha.

i really enjoyed TP. It doesnt have as much of a replay value as the other Zeldas i have to say, and it seems shorter than most of them, but it was well fun! My opinion :P

*SPOILERS* There were a LOT of things in TP that we saw in trailers and didn't get with the finished package. There was no level with ghosts of soldiers if I recall. I remember the trailer scrolled through a room of a level for a few seconds, and there were these spirits of dead soldiers everywhere (and I'm not talking about when you use your senses you can see people in the other realm kind of thing, I mean actual ghosts). Also, I remember a scene where Link is just standing there, then the Lens of Truth (assumed to be) kicked in, and there were ghost rats all over him. Of course, the rats were there in the final game, but the only way you could see them would be in wolf form. It really upset me because at Hyrule Castle there is a part where you have to use your senses to see some spirits (whom you have never seen in the game prior) who point you in the right direction to go. It felt like an entire level was cut out from the game, but they for some reason left that part of the castle there unchanged (which had to do with the cut out level). I remember bringing this exact subject up on another forum. I wonder if I could find it and bring some of what was said here... For those of you who were wondering, I think that the spider in the trailer link was running away from was just Ghoma who they decided to make the Temple of Time boss, with different attacks of course. There were a bunch of minor changes, like Midna's colour scheme, the Twilight realm changing from a grey tone to a sunset tone, small stuff like that.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

I know everyone raved about Zelda, I personally wasn't impressed. While the controls and visuals were nice, the entire game felt burnt out to me. It wasn't my favorite Zelda for sure, that actually belongs to a Link to the Past only to be followed by Link's Awakening. My big problem with Zelda is that it HASN'T changed. It's one of the few games I'm aware of that virtually hasn't seriously evolved or changed that hasn't gotten mamed for such. I hope the new Zelda will be radically different, otherwise Link won't see anymore of my money.
