I havent visited Live movie section since it was introduced around christmas(where they had like 12 films). I just been on at my friends and there is now 66 movies 33 of which are HD. At this rate by end of the year Live will have roughly 200 movies of which 100 would be HD. I cant believe that Transformers in HD in the shops is like £25, and on Live in HD it's like £4. Way to save money. Did anyone else realise there is getting quite alot now? Are you gonna use this service? I will when I get my new Elite in about 4 weeks.

The thing is you can't keep the movie, its only a rental and it doesn't have extra features like how Blu-ray and conventional DVD's have. And it takes long as shit to download.

I have watched a few movies on Xbox Live marketplace: The Game Plan, Saw IV, Rush Hour 3, Good Luck Chuck and a few more that I can't remember.

I enjoyed it but the downloads took forever.

I think it was because I wanted the HD version but it would be about 1 or some more minutes for me to actually watch the movie while it downloads it.

Very disappointing but it looks like Microsoft is going in the right direction as far as this digital download program is concerned.

Features dont bother me and very few films I watch more than once every six monyhs. So works for me.

Well, like most people you can find used dvd's for around 5$-10$ or in other words 3 euros - 6 euros

 Can you watch the movie on Monday and again next week?
Can you lend the movie to a friend?
Can you take the movie to someone else's place and watch it?
Can I pay for the movie and watch it within 10 minutes?
Do I have to give up my precious bandwidth?

It's like saying Why buy a car for 30,000 dollars when you can rent it for a day for 30 bucks

Digital distribution makes sense form a content creators perspective. They don't need to press the physical media, they don't need to ship it, they're under no obligation to create loads of extra content. Its makes more sense from a creators point of view then a consumers. The overarching philosophy being make more money by doing less.

 and yet it makes no sense in today's society, where the media itself is HEAVILY DRMed, the distribution method is HEAVILY flawed and the fact you don't even get to keep it.

 

In my view, it makes sense 10 years from now, not now.

kingofwale: You know not everybody wants to OWN every single movie. Hell, my parents usually rent ~3 movies, about every 2/3 weeks or so from Hollywood Video. They get to see all the new movies they want and if they really really like a movie then they might end up buying the dvd sometime, though they usually don't watch the movie again(unless it ends up on Satellite/cable)
