None of us have said anything about keeping the game isometric or anything along those lines. We want Bethesda to keep the spirit of Fallout alive and they're not doing it. They're basically giving us future Oblivion with guns. That's not Fallout. |
And lots of things others, specially @shio, said that I agree with:
I agree, I could even like a Morrowind- or Oblivion- -like game but put in a postnuclear setting, and I'm confident that in their own way Bethesda could do a good job, but I couldn't consider it a Fallout game. And yes, I think too that Fallout 2 (I haven't played Fallout 1) is highly moral, like in Planescape: Torment everything you do has consequences and although you can be tough, if needed, and like in reality you don't need to be a saint, being a complete bastard will in the end ruin a lot of possible experiences and prevent you from enjoying a lot of interesting parts in the game.
The only thing relieving me is that I'm so behind in gaming that I'll buy and play Fallout 3 when it will have bargain price (and already accurately bug-fixed), so, at least for the price paid, it won't be able to deceive me much, provided that I can persuade myself that it's not a bad Fallout game, but a good whatever else game that incidentally bears a Fallout name.
That said, more to console myself than other, I feel a bitter taste, the only other thing making me feel better is that it looks like they won't go so far as the thugs that made Deus Ex's sequel a dumb game for moron lamers (luckily I read reviews by fans of the original and saved my money that time, but I'm still angry for wasting my money in Myth III and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time).
Well, but to think to better things, I have to find some time to continue playing Planescape: Torment, I'm still in the "Hive" but I alredy like it almost as much as Fallout 2 (perhaps I still prefer Fallout 2 for its atmosphere, less grim, still harsh, but with a hint of hope for a brave new world, with a protagonist that is looking for life, not death...).
