Forums - Gaming Discussion - EVO Online announced, taking the place of cancelled EVO 2020

(Sorry, can’t embed tweet from my phone)

July 4-August 2. 5 weekends of special exhibitions for originally scheduled EVO 2020 games, except for Smash which seems to have been dropped due to poor net code.

Open online tournaments for:

-Mortal Kombat 11

-Killer Instinct

-Skullgirls 2nd Encore

-Them’s Fightin’ Herds

Around the Network

Smash online tournaments have already been having issues and some pretty wonky results. Makes sense to eliminate it. Smash online is fine for casual play, but too dodgy for a credible tournament.

Did they literally say Smash is getting cut due to the netcode? I mean, it's pretty obvious, but still. I feel like a statement like that coming from something like Evo would be the best chance we'd have of making Nintendo improve the online. A very, very, verry, very small chance, yeah, I know. But if ever there was reason for hope, it's this. I think.

Also, really glad for Skullgirls. I've never really played it, but I know many people who love that game, and just from looking at it it's obvious it always deserved more attention. Kinda ironic that it only happened with a pandemic forcing online events, but hey, that's what good netcode will do for ya I guess.

smart move to make the ones with the good netcode the open online tourneys.

Guess I have to thank a virus for the spotlight on Them Fighting Herds and Skullgirls.

All the games i don't know

My prediction in 2021.
