The action games were divisive, but that doesn't mean that they don't have fans. Res 5 and Res 6 remain the number 1 and number 2 bestselling games in the Resident Evil franchise, and that is before taking into account their current gen ports. The PS4/XB1 version of Res 5 sold 1.4m, the PS4/XB1 version of Res 6 sold 1.9m, and the PS4/XB1 version of Res 4 sold 1.6m. The fact that so many people bought the current gen ports of Res 4, 5, and 6, even though there were barely any graphical improvements (and even though they were playable on BC on XB1), clearly means that those games have a pretty sizeable fanbase who enjoyed them. To put that into perspective, the PS4/XB1 ports of Res 6 sold more copies than Dead Rising 1 sold on Xbox 360, and the same number of copies that Resident Evil Revelations sold across 360, PS3, PC, and Wii U. So yes, while much of the classic survival horror fanbase didn't like 4, 5, and especially 6, clearly Capcom managed to carve out a new fanbase for those more action focused Res games, and it would be nice if they developed some games for that action fanbase in the future, even if it is just remakes of 4, 5, and 6 and/or a spinoff game that continues on from the storyline of 6, for non Chris characters (we know what Chris did after Res 6 thanks to Res 7, but we know little about what Claire, Jake, Sherry, Ada, Leon, Helena, etc. have been up to post Res 6).

See, this is where I see a new problem for Capcom and the fanbase to face.
Just like MS back in the day was a PC company first, it eventually created it's own console and abandoned it's PC userbase for a time, only to come back later on, but they still have a core and common problem that Capcom will now face:
They have to cater to both userbases.
MS has to make exclusives for Xbox, but they also show up on PC, and we see this being used as a complaint to not grab an X1, and yet they know it would result in far more effort to create exclusives for it's PC side and exclusives for it's console side, that never show up on opposite sides, but they know they cannot do this, nor do they likely want to.
Capcom now has this issue, where it has to either make games for both the action and the OPG fans of old Resi, or stick to making one type and abandoning one userbase. This is a problem completely done by their own design, and not the userbase. MS invented their own problem that still persists, and it's become obvious that Capcom has invented their own issue, thanks to their trend chasing/flip flopping ideas/concepts, in trying to change an IP to garner audience growth (ie: I want more money).
As I'm more a fan of the OG series, I would hate for the OG fanbase to be traded for the new one, since the new one did not arrive until later on, nor were they into the OG series until 4-6 showed up. I would say this for just about any game. I saw what happened when C&C changed things up and traded for a new userbase, it flopped and the OG fans were left to their own devices (still feels like I am, despite us having AoE coming back in a big way).
