So, today the biggest Russian consumer electronics retailer "MVideo-Eldorado" published 2019 year's end data for console hardware and software sales. This retailer is estimated to have around 60% marketshare in console gaming segment in the country which can give a pretty good picture about country's console gaming market. 

Software sales totals:

- Total software sales (physical only): 1.9m

- Total software sales (revenue): 4.2b ₽ (~65m $)

- Digital codes sales: +30% YoY compared to 2018

- Customer interest in subscription services is noted, especially Geforce Now

Hardware sales:

Total hardware sales (consoles sold): 670000

- Total hardware sales (revenue): 12.3b ₽ (~190m $)

- Average console price: 18500 ₽ (~280 $) - down 6% compared to 2018

- Market leader: PS4 (55% marketshare in console sales, 75% marketshare in revenue)

- Second place: Xbox One

- Third place: Nintendo Switch

(It isn't clearly mentioned whether Xbox One is second in terms of revenue or number of consoles sold)

Additional notes:

- Switch saw the biggest growth out of all consoles, and Switch software sales revenue overtook Xbox One software sales revenue for the first time

- Top 5 successful publishers: Sony, EA, Ubisoft, Take Two, Warner Bros

One retailer only. And it's not surprising considering console gaming is less popular than PC gaming in Russia. Majority of people are not willing to spend money on specific device that can just play games and do nothing else. Especially considering that games for these devices are very expensive. I also wouldn't call 670K per year a bad number considering that total hardware sales for all three platforms in Rest of the World region is 30m. So, it makes up to 2% of total ROTW sales in just one year.



 

Not a fan of their chart tastes tbh. Does anyone remember that Nintendo Russia streams where the boss was screaming at his employees making them cry?

Yes, and Nintendo community in Russia still doesn't understand why he isn't fired for that. But as you see, Switch has the biggest growth out of all big three, so NOE is satisfied with how the guy does business.
