Forums - Gaming - Mario Strikers Charged grinds Nintendo's network to a halt

So when Home chokes on release day, do I have permission from the PS3 fanboys to bash Sony for being clueless?

Only if you really mean it

dpmnymkrprez, I'm not a big fan of soccer games, but when I played Mario Strikers for the Gamecube, I had a blast. It's like the NBA Jam of the soccer world. I'm not a big sports fan, but games like Blitz, Jam, and Strikers are arcade style; very fast-paced with a lot of action. So, you might like it. As a matter of fact, if you want to get a taste of what it's like (you have a Wii, right?), you can get the GC game and try it.

This game rox! the Errors were annoying on the first day, but i got around it by playing the game yesterday morning and this morning :P The errors are still there, but theyre not as common and it is possible to get on during the afternoon/evening. I believe this is because there arent as many people trying now because its 2 days past the release day. There is very little lag in the games, theyre basically all flawless, and it can be really challenging and fun :P I believe that the server has been hacked. You wanna know why? No. 2 on the leader board has around 200 -220 wins, and a few thousand points. This guy who is top, since the first day, has 9990 Wins, 9990 Loses, and 999900 Points. Sumhow, i dont think that many games have even been played yet on this game lol. Also, to all those people whoa re thinking about not getting this game because they dont like football... i recommend trying it. All my m8s despise football (to say the least), theyre all rugby lovers. But a bunch of them came over on the weekend and we played for hours on two player, it was brilliant fun. Its really fun to watch people play as well, because its always so tense! I believe if i can make them like this game as much as i did, anyone will like it :P

This is not good...

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

That's pretty funny!

If they did get hacked, glad it happened now - and not down the track ;)

It can't be that hard to a (fairly) unhackable network system running between Wii's & a server. Or they just need people there watching what is going on, and banning IP's / connections as it goes.

Welcome to the world of online Nintendo ;)

Please do.  I know I was upset when Everquest 1 (Sony Online) sucked the first few weeks after I'd played in the beta lag free.  It's just that most companies haave learned by now, and I hope Sony is one of those.

Blizzard surpassed all expectations with WoW, because it's by far the most successful ever.

Microsoft doesn't like providing players with servers.

The game had like 160k connections the day after launch according to GAF. Thats more than some of the popular DS games get in a entire week. And the DS is a handheld with more than one to a household. Its funny to see Nintendo trip over themselves with their online. They are going to have to face that it is a part of the future and embrace it more lol.

But good news anyway, Im sure you all remember the way this happened with Mario Kart DS. Same stuff happened, smashed their servers to bits. Took them a bit to get everything in line so we could play lol.  Oh and someone mentioned WoW. LOL I played that game at release, bought my copy at midnight and went home and played it (talk about hardcore), reserved all the names I wanted then went to sleep. Took the next day off of work, woke up and got online, fivehundredandfiftyfivemillion motherf****s in the starting area running around ALL trying to do the starter quests. A complete clusterf*** of epic proportions that was crashing the server every 20 or so minutes, which is JUST about enough time for you to get knee deep into a quest only to have the servers heart stop.

That crap persisted for a LONG time, they literally had to quadruple the amount of servers for the game in a short amount of time, because the handfull they launched with werent even a fraction of enough. Guilds (including mine) that migrated to WOW from other MMO's were splintered as we all desperately tried to coordinate moves from the starter servers we originally chose (that were over crowded to hell and back) to one of the new servers Blizzard were opening.

Garganutuan screw up. This little mario strikers thing is nothing compared to that.

Well good to hear Nintendo is finally online. I'm a rabbid soccer hater but the game does seem to be getting great reviews and a large amount of play so I'll have to try it out when it finally crosses the pond. I won't be playing it the first week so no need for me to worry about the inevitable server problems.

I'm gonna rip you limb from limb, tear the skin off your flesh, carve out your eyeballs, put your **** in a blender, eat your heart, and let the guy in my avatar take care of the rest of you.

HOW DARE YOU!!!     ;) to each his own

As far as I know, soccer is pretty much 300x more popular in Europe and other countries than USA. I guess when Madden or whatever dumb American football game comes online, our servers will crash here.
Nintendo doesn't want to just buy 30 super powered servers, only to have nobody buy the game. It's better bidness for them if they wait until they know how popular the game will be, and then buy the equipment that they need.
PS: Does anyone know if this happened with the Japanese release of that Pokemon game? Wasn't that online?

Data involved in Pokemon online is miniscule. No real-time data, lag doesn't matter, etc. No comparison, and may not even be able to know if there was a real problem.
