The game had like 160k connections the day after launch according to GAF. Thats more than some of the popular DS games get in a entire week. And the DS is a handheld with more than one to a household. Its funny to see Nintendo trip over themselves with their online. They are going to have to face that it is a part of the future and embrace it more lol.
But good news anyway, Im sure you all remember the way this happened with Mario Kart DS. Same stuff happened, smashed their servers to bits. Took them a bit to get everything in line so we could play lol. Oh and someone mentioned WoW. LOL I played that game at release, bought my copy at midnight and went home and played it (talk about hardcore), reserved all the names I wanted then went to sleep. Took the next day off of work, woke up and got online, fivehundredandfiftyfivemillion motherf****s in the starting area running around ALL trying to do the starter quests. A complete clusterf*** of epic proportions that was crashing the server every 20 or so minutes, which is JUST about enough time for you to get knee deep into a quest only to have the servers heart stop.
That crap persisted for a LONG time, they literally had to quadruple the amount of servers for the game in a short amount of time, because the handfull they launched with werent even a fraction of enough. Guilds (including mine) that migrated to WOW from other MMO's were splintered as we all desperately tried to coordinate moves from the starter servers we originally chose (that were over crowded to hell and back) to one of the new servers Blizzard were opening.
Garganutuan screw up. This little mario strikers thing is nothing compared to that.
