So many uncounted deaths in the US. Looks like they have at least 50% more deaths than official numbers.

Do we know what happens if uninsured citizens get infected? Do they still need to pay astronomically high fees if they get hospitalized? If that's the case, many people dying without getting hospitalized wouldn't be surprising at all.

It's natural to assume that there are a lot of people who won't go to the hospital because they fear the bills. People being more afraid of hospitals than a deadly virus is pretty sad. There are probably also a ton of people who just die fast in their own homes due to comorbidities.

In any way, I've been saying it for weeks, but the death rates and case number curves do not match what's been going on in the country. They just need way more testing.

The Netherlands doing well today is because they released numbers from yesterday which was Kings day, long weekend.

This is what a national, concerted effort in a densely populated area looks like.

The action, as shown in your pics. And the results, as seen in my charts.

EDIT:

New York State:
Population - 19.45 million
Total cases - 301,450
Total deaths - 23,144

The Netherlands:
Population - 17.42 million
Total cases - 38,416
Total deaths - 4,566

IKEA reopened yesterday though, people are already spelling doom and gloom again.

What's your obsession with United States? While I think it's very unlikely this virus could've been defeated even with instant proactive measures, there's plenty of other countries who messed up as well. This wasn't the first wide-spread disease Europe had to deal with either, and things have been just as bad. This hindsight bullshit isn't helping anyone at the moment, there's time for that later, hopefully. Now would be the time to try to avoid a future where we'll be fighting COVID-19 while dealing with economic crisis. How it's done I'm not sure, but months and months of lockdown will lead  to that future.

edit. well fuck it after considering it a while I think I do value money over health.. I risk my own life and health for a lousy paycheck. You got me.

Those other countries aren't making stupid statements in the middle of a pandemic and providing a high quality level of comical entertainment... The United States is providing the information and the evidence of what not to do right now... And the world needs to take note of those lessons and not emulate their same responses now or in the future.

Yes those other countries that stuffed up deserve criticism as well... And need to be called out and acknowledged. - The thing about hindsight is that, the world should have used it to be better prepared for the Coronavirus as this isn't the first virus that threatened the modern world, but it seems only a few countries took lessons from the Swine Flu and Bird Flu.

I don't appreciate that you didn't aknowledge my response to your insults. Instead you're still riding your moral high horse and letting everyone know what a life saver you are. So let me tell you things I've dealt with during my 13 years on duty.. it's domestic violence and violence in general, abused childer, people suffering from poverty, mental illness, alcholism and addictions, deaths, homicides, fatal accidents, suicides and stuff like that. Then there's the dangerous stuff but it's not relevant to this discussion. Early in my career I had to do some self-searching and build a certain mental barrier to cope with this stuff, even though all these tragedies happened to other people, not me.

Watching all this stuff makes one raise questions like is all life equal, do some individuals deserve a second, third and fourth chance, what is justice and so on. It doesn't make me an expert or even qualified to make decisions how to deal with global pandemic of course. It doesn't give me a moral high-ground. But it damn right gives me the right to be concerned about economy crisis affecting human lives and bringing even more problems to society, without someone questioning my humanity.

We should be able to discuss stuff without personal attacks, even if we disagree.

Well to be fair, when your wife/girlfriend drags you to IKEA it's all doom and gloom. Until you reach that meatballs & smashed potatoes restaurant at least :P

So many uncounted deaths in the US. Looks like they have at least 50% more deaths than official numbers.

New York City 325% 11,900 10,261 = 1,700
New Jersey 172% 5,200 2,183 = 3,000
New York (excluding N.Y.C.) 142% 4,200 2,425 = 1,700
Michigan 121% 2,000 1,391 = 600
Massachusetts 120% 1,200 686 = 500
Colorado 116% 600 274 = 300
Maryland 115% 700 207 = 500
Illinois 113% 1,400 682 = 700

Intresting..... and thats just 7 states (if most of these are Covid19, thats another ~9,000 deaths attributed towards it).
Actual deaths due to covid19 could already be well over 80,000 in the USA, if things are playing out in a simular fashion in the rest of the states.

On some more hopeful news there a vaccine our of Oxford that showing some real potential.
https://www.businessinsider.com/monkeys-given-new-oxford-vaccine-coronavirus-free-strong-exposure-encouraging-2020-4

Obviously no guaranteed it will be effective on humans but the species of Monkeys used is the closest things they could of tested on too humans. It was enough to let them start human trials. In theory if it goes well could be approved as early as September. Hopefully it works out and at least we can start getting essential personnel vaccination this fall as we start scaling up for wider vaccination.

"It took 20 years, from 1955 to 1975, for the United States to lose 58,220 men and women to the nation’s most divisive conflict since the Civil War. In less than four *Two months, just as many Americans have died from the Covid-19 pandemic — the toll, on Tuesday, hit 58,947, surpassing the total number killed in Southeast Asia."

March 9th. USA had 163 confirmed cases of infected.

Thats not even 2 full months ago.
It might have been there longer, but "outbreak" didnt really start happending until a week or so into March.
March was when the ball started rolling so to speak.
