We know Kojima have a lot experience on making Mecha themes Video games. Games like Metal Gear Solid are based on Political and Science Fiction Robot and Mecha. Also Zone Of Ender is really famous in PS2 . It seems he was Inspired by Gundam and he just recently tweet how he admire the series.
