They really need to take a break from Gears, keep supporting Gears 5 since it will get a next gen upgrade and the rumored Campaign DLC in 2021.
They don’t need to revive ShangHeist but they should stretch their creative minds a bit, you can’t do that when you are constrained to Gears that has very specific formula and game structure.

Disagree. Really enjoyed the Gears 5 campaign, and it pretty much ended on a cliffhanger. They need to finish this story arc before they take a break.
My local retailers still are not allowing the pre-order of the XSeX. I don't expect they will either until a price is confirmed. Anyone else had any luck?
Let’s forget about Shangeist, that thing was just a tech demo for the devs to warm up.
Gears doesn’t need to take a break. It needs a bold next entry, like having bigger open hubs with meaningful exploration mechanics and RPG elements.
Bloober will probably reveal how their game use XSEX tech, after MS disclose Velocity Architecture in detail.
More than horror studio, MS should see if they can snatch NCAA sports licenses and form a mega studio to work on college sports games. That would be a huge flex and certain to win US.
So people believe Forza 8 will be 2021? 4 years to the usual 2 is crazy long, I can’t wait to see what they do. Guess it’s for the best, let Halo Infinite take the spotlight. It’s clearly the most expensive launch title.
And I’m exited for Obsidians possible Pillers of Eternity rpg. I’m not familiar but it sounds like a vast lore pool to draw from. Make it play like Outer Worlds or FNV and you have a hit.

Battletoads is being shadow dropped - "Best of luck with cert" meaning the release is likely within the next month or so. |
So the July event? MS done this tactic before, good catch!

Several of the new hires on the Horizon team are new to the games industry, fresh out of college or with only a small amount of freelance work before being hired by Playground. 2 of them are former Codemasters devs. The fact that the racing team is expanding so quickly does lead me to believe that Horizon 5 is releasing this year. 16 new devs on the Forza team so far this year, 8 last month. That definitely seems like they're ramping up production suddenly. I am somewhat worried by the continued slow hiring on the RPG team. So far this year they've only hired 12 more for the RPG team, 27 in the last 12 months, and it seems like the RPG studio still has less than 70 total. If they don't speed up hiring soon, I'm going to become very doubtful that the Fable reboot will launch before Holiday 2022. On the plus side, Playground is now at 241 devs total between the two studios, with 105 open positions, the most I've ever seen open on LinkedIn for Playground. Once they fill all of those they will be at 346 devs, still short of their eventual goal of 200 per studio, but they will be in much better shape, especially on the RPG team. Hopefully they can get all 105 filled before the end of the year. |
I can wait if it means the RPGs are spaced out. Feel like Obsidian is going to release theirs first. Followed by Playground and then Inexile.

Taking into account how quickly hiring is stepping up on Playground's Horizon team, I'm starting to think that Klobrille was right and Horizon 5 is releasing in 2020 instead of Motorsport 8. If that is the case, I would guess we see Horizon 5 as a cross-gen launch title for Series X in 2020 with Motorsport 8 coming September 2021. Since Motorsport 8 is being described as a reboot of the series with a new engine and they've said they want to take their time with it, I think Turn 10 recently decided to delay it to 2021, and Playground is stepping up hiring to make up for having less time to develop Horizon 5. |
Wouldn’t this year be 2 years since Horizon 4? They seem pretty good at making games within the 2 year deadlines.
You guys are all wrong. The next Forza contains BOTH Motorsport and Horizon.
It's called Forza Motorhorizon, and you get to travel the whole world, drive around wherever you want, and all the Motorsport tracks simply exist in the world for you to drive or fast travel to, and hold conventional races as you see fit.
