| Ryuu96 said: Lets do a question. Obsidian & InXile, basically bro studios, Xbox's two main RPG teams, both with a very different tactic though if rumours are true. Obsidian is working on 4 IPs (That we know off) split between 200ish employees (Outsourcing amount unknown), this will mean Obsidian will release a steady stream of quality content but maybe not show their full potential with restricted team sizes. InXile on the other hand, is going all out on a single IP, combing their entire studio for one project, aiming to be a full on AAA studio according to leaks and working on a RPG of a huge scale, this however will likely mean we won't see anything from InXile for around 4-5 years after Wasteland 3. Very different approaches, which do you prefer? What one makes you more excited? |
Arguable, since neither one is working on Fable. That's not to deny their pedigree of course, but Playground are the ones who've been entrusted with the one well established commercial brand RPG MS actually owns. Hell, the biggest IP they own period, outside of Halo, Gears, and Forza.
As for which approach I like better between inXile and Obsidian...I'm not quite sure tbh. On paper, I prefer the idea of a mega game on the scale of something like Witcher or Cyberpunk, provided that level of quality is actually delivered. On the other hand, those types of games take a very long time to come together, and the wait can be killer. If Obsidian continues to work on projects more on par with something like Outer Worlds, that may not be quite as exciting every time one rolls around, but they are still quite good, and can come around a lot more often to boot.
Ultimately then, I would say that the two approaches compliment each other. One studio gives me a steady diet of RPG goodness to hold me over until the other studio brings out the big guns. Win win.
