Finally. I hope they get rid of MS Store on Series X. The original Xbox One Store was better before they transitioned to MS Store.

Personally I disregard any company over $1bn market cap as possible candidates, I doubt any of Microsoft's recent acquisitions even hit the $200m mark.

Would be curious to see what the companies cost Tbh but we won't ever know, the most we could probably see is Microsoft's total acquisition spending in a certain period and go lower than that.

Pretty much everything worthwhile the could acquire would cost more than $1b unfortunately. Anything big enough to actually have a significant impact on console sales next-gen I mean.

Market caps for various publishers and developers:

  • Zenimax:  Private company, but somebody sold a 33% share for $1.2b in 2007, and overall value was estimated at $2.5b in 2016. MS might be able to acquire an individual developer Zenimax owns for less than $1b, Bethesda might be above that, but smaller Zenimax studios like id, Arkane, Machine, and Tango should be doable for less than $1b. But I'm not sure if any of their studios but Bethesda would have a significant impact on Xbox hardware sales.
  • Sega Sammy: $3.4b (MS might be able to get Sega for cheaper if Sega was separated from Sammy)
  • Tecmo Koei: $3.7b
  • Bandai Namco: $12.3b (might be able to get Namco for alot less by separating it from Bandai)
  • CD Projekt S.A.: $9.5b (might be able to get CD Projekt Red for alot less if the developer and IP's were separated from GOG)
  • Capcom: $4.2b
  • Square Enix: $5.8b
  • Take-Two: $15.5b
  • Ubisoft: $9.3b
  • Activision-Blizzard: $55.4b
  • EA: $35.4b
  • Konami: $5b
  • Embracer Group (parent company of THQ Nordic and Koch Media): $3.5b

Bethesda itself would probably be doable. Zenimax gets around 25% of their worth from Bethesda. They also own other stuff beyond media. Sammy is indeed the main driver of Sega's wealth and could lead to MS prying them off, however, even then, I wouldn't recommend denting Sega. Tecmo is actually well within their strike zone and we need no reminder most of the people over there still enjoy their second party glory. Bamco same as Sega but worse: Bandai owns tons of money via Banpresto and D3 (MS, don't even think about that one!). The second company, Bandai gaming, alonside Namco, are worth less than Squeenix.

CDP definitely gets their groove from GOG as well. Even though Capcom is doable, I don't recommend it since they don't have much to sell. Square Enix would be a gold mine, but even if MS wanted to, that's essentially MS cannibalizing a sizable portion of Japan's entertainment sector. Unless Satya himself was issuing the order, seems impossible. The thing is, even if they tried, they would turn the offer down unless Squeenix was folded completely into MS (that means Gaikai's remains go Azure, their creative services are folded into whatever Panos Panay works and the store and museum they own become MS Stores). This, as mentioned before, would need MS the company and not MS, the parent of Xbox.

Take-Two: no. Like not even Rockstar's subsidiaries. GTA even outsizes Halo. The odds of 343 getting a huge axing if this ever happens are excessively high.

Ubisoft: the most realistic choice sans Bethesda for AsCreed. Probably not because AsCreed isn't a big mover.

Activision: Yeah, Activision. Blizzard way too developed, way too stronk.

EA: Electronic Arts. Everything else gets thrown even if they get to absorb a few extra IPs.

Konami: doable only if you want to get back at Sony for Kojima, since Death Stranding proved he wasn't the genius everyone thought he was.

Embracer: no. Money sink.

So, all in all, it depends on how gung-ho MS isn't and the answer doesn't seem to be much. I was wondering if maybe they should buy Arc System Works (then I get the last laugh) and Tamsoft (seems easy to go for) even though either move (both if it were up to me) essentially gut Marvelous.

They could also get Falcom. Seems even far more profitable since they can make any game and it'll be good. After doing a little digging, it turns out they can create convincing non Japanese games. It's good to have a versatile company with a franchise they can flesh out whenever they feel like they aren't making enough money.

At this point, I think they should buy IPs and assign a team to it. I almost wish Acclaim was limping along and then they could get that one. An XGRA sequel would be amazing.

In my opinion, the mistake was moving the MS Store to game consoles instead of moving the XBOX Store into PC. If they find the magic key, expect them to turn things around by reviving the later and modelling the PC version on it.

Agree. Not only MS Store performance is not great, it doesn't feel like it is tailored for gamepad experience first like the original Xbox Store was.

I'm gonna go with very unlikely with this rumor. Sure Sega is more well known in Japan, but Sega consoles never were big hits in Japan.

Yeah, as I've already mentioned in the thread, Xbox Series X is already being marketed as Xbox Series X in Japan. Don't see this changing as it would be really strange if it happens.

I believe some of you guys have already brought this up, but I really hate how they moved the Achievements tab to the right of the Xbox guide home menu, it used to be to the left, even on 360 days. Why change it? Fix that shit MS!

I think you can move it by yourself

I've seen several sources backing up the rumor now, several other Youtubers as well as the Sega Bits site are backing up the rumor that the June 4th Sega hardware announce is Microsoft related. Will be interesting if it turns out to be true. Wonder how extensive the partnership would be if it is true, is it simply like the Nintendo-Tencent deal in China, where Tencent markets and sells Switch for Nintendo in China? Or is it an even bigger deal that could include Sega exclusives or timed exclusives for the Series X?

Also worth noting that Saturn sold nearly 4x as much as 360 in Japan. Sega name does still mean something to alot of JP gamers. Sega is really the only option if they want to partner up for a deal like this, they can't partner with Sony or Nintendo in Japan without looking like they are caving in to their competitors and going multiplat. And could you imagine what exclusive Yakuza or Persona could do for Xbox sales in Japan?

Microsoft exclusive Persona would make me cry, yell and ask why to a wall for a whole hour.

This isn’t the first time the Sega rumor has been brought up. Lol this time of year rumours are soooo delicious. If true, the “asset denial” will be immense. I think MS should make one more BIG purchase, it’s the only way to ensure GP and Xcloud thriving: more exclusive experiences not found on competition

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

MS will drag people kicking and screaming but in the end you will thank them once you see how nice it is over here :)

People made fun of Xbox for not having games they wanted...careful what you wish for haha

Guys you think the possibility to make this supposed deal work is if Sega gets a cut of each hardware sold? Ya know give them a cut for the branding that will surely help in the region? I think that’s a possible avenue to make the arrangement work. Sega stands to profit from each console sold and MS profits from new gamers spending more money in their ecosystem.
