It actually wouldn’t have been greenlit. Sawyer’s been wanting to make this game since Obsidian was Black Isle Studios lol. But it was turned down multiple times over the years, even after Obsidian was founded, due to lack of funding. Which is why I’m so excited for this game!

Makes sense, since Obsidian was cash strapped and Feargus threatened to fire Sawyer and Brennecke during production of Pillars of Eternity, Lol. In hindsight, that would have been a disastrous move, Sawyer is arguably Obsidian's most talented employee and Brennecke went on to create a massive hit for them which will likely become Obsidian's most successful project of all time in terms of players.

WHAT?!?! How did I miss this??? What happened? Lol

By September 2014, it had dawned on most of the Pillars of Eternity team that shipping that year would be difficult. It wasn’t just the backer beta; the whole game needed more work. Obsidian needed to polish, to optimize, to spend more time zapping bugs and making sure that every area of the game felt both interesting and fun to play. “Everyone’s looking at each other: ‘No. We’re not even near this. We’re just not there yet,’” said Justin Bell, the audio director. “You have to be able to play from the beginning of the game all the way to the end and feel like it’s a total experience, and that just was not even close to being the case.” Adam Brennecke and Josh Sawyer asked Feargus Urquhart for a meeting.

Over lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, one of Urquhart’s favourite haunts, Brennecke and Sawyer explained that trying to release the game in November would be a disaster. The team needed more time.

Yes, they were out of Kickstarter money and would now have to dip into Obsidian’s own funds, but for a game like Pillars of Eternity—Obsidian’s most important game to date—the extra investment felt necessary. Urquhart argued against it, but Brennecke and Sawyer were persistent. In their minds, the choice was already made.

“Feargus sat Josh and me down,” Brennecke said. “He said, ‘If this game does not come out in March, you guys are both gone after this project.’” Recalling the pressure, Brennecke could only laugh. “OK, we’ll get it done.”

Source is Jason Schreier's book apparently (Blood, Sweat and Pixels) but I only got it from RPG Codex and can't remember how I got it from there since it's a garbo site which I don't browse. Maaaaybe he didn't mean it, hard to tell the tone from text, or maybe it was an empty threat, and he never would have gone through with it, who knows.

I'm not a JRPG fan but that list seems good to me?

Aside from fucking Pokemon, Wtf? Miles Pls

Most of those are the ones I want, especially Final Fantasy, Mana, Atelier, Ys, Legend of Heroes, and a sequel or remake for Lost Odyssey. Not interested in Disgaea or a new Parasite Eve though, and Pokemon obviously won't happen.

Ugh, the Right Bumper on my Xbox Series controller is no longer working right after less than 2 years, it feels mushy and half the taps don't register. I miss the days when game controllers were made to rigorous and exacting standards. All of my original Sega Genesis controllers still work after 28 years, all of my 360 controllers still work, but every single Xbox One and Xbox Series controller I have bought has had something go wrong with it within 2 years. Switch is no better from what I hear, joycon stick drift issues still happening 5.5 years into Switch's life cycle even on newly bought Switch's.

Even more annoying is the fact that Xbox makes their controllers difficult to fix yourself these days, the covers are hard to remove, and you need to buy a special screwdriver.

The right bumper issue is only getting worse, and it's greatly impacting Overwatch 2 now as most of the best hero abilities are tied to right bumper. Guess I'm going to get one of those cheap $25 PowerA wired controllers that have pretty good reviews on Amazon, I don't want to spend $50 on a new Xbox Series controller until the mid gen controller revision with PS5 like features that Phil has hinted at.

If I was somewhat intrigue by the game now I'm definitely going to play it. I kind of like when a single person have a vision and don't quit until it is realized.

It depict a project which have been born from passion. An idea that have been nurtured in the mind of someone for many years, taking shapes, being refined and polished. This process often leads to pure gem with complexes storyline and more developed intrigue which tends to engage me in a deeper way.

I really like what Matt booty is saying about State of decay 3(great visuals, animations).
My dream for SoD is a game that plays like SoD 2 with RE3 remake's visuals.
I know SoD3 wont look that good but any step towards that direction is a good thing.

Res 3 Remake will be 4-5 years old and a generation outdated when SoD 3 releases. It better look at least as good as Res 3 Remake, people have AAA expectations for SoD 3.

SoD3 will have multiple open world maps. There is no way it'll have the same visual quality or detail as RE3 but im sure it will look great since it seems like it'll get a considerably bigger budget than previous games.
