Blockchain.

Ew.

They're making an MMO too, but Microsoft almost certainly invested in them for the blockchain shit.

[LEGEND OF YMIR] UNREAL5 TECH DEMO - YouTube

Founded over two decades ago, Wemade is best known for its sleeper hit title ‘The Legend of Mir,” which at one point had over 200 million signups.

In the last few years, Wemade has been exploring ways to incorporate blockchain technology into its new titles and offerings. It recently launched its blockchain Wemix3.0 to mainnet and launched a stablecoin and a DeFi platform. The company says it is aiming to “transform everyday games with blockc

Microsoft, which operates the Xbox gaming ecosystem, has invested $14.8 million in Wemade through purchase of convertible bonds, Shinhan $21.2 million and Kiwoom $10.5 million, regulatory filings showed.

That's.....very odd. You need some sort of "item of value" in blockchain games to get you in the ecosystem and Phil has publicly decried NFT's. Unless they're trying to take a different approach, but this would be very odd if a major Xbox published game comes out of this.

Probably didn't pay proper tribute to his new King.

It could also be his computer not being able to handle multiple thread creations.

Overall, this news feels mixed to me.

On the one hand, I'm glad that CoD quality will improve with each CoD getting 6 years of development instead of 3. And I'm glad that moving to 6 years per game will mean that less CoD support studios are needed, freeing up non-CoD main dev Activision studios such as Beenox and Toys For Bob to work on more of their own games again.

On the downside however, this means no CoD in 2023, final PS marketing deal CoD in 2024, and no CoD in 2025. That means the first CoD able to be day one Gamepass won't be until 2026, which feels like ages from now. Also, I really enjoyed Advanced Warfare, particularly the campaign, and was hoping it was indeed getting a sequel. AW was the best of the Sledgehammer lead CoD's yet, if they aren't doing a sequel to it, it means they will continue taking stabs in the dark with new CoD properties that may or may not be a success.
