Idle Sloth is posting that Xbox has resolved their notorious DRM issues in the September update, but he’s unsure if it’s accurate. That would be fantastic if true!

Mint Blitz went 50-0 in a Shotty Snipes match while live streaming even if the SBMM was entirely turned off, idk how anyone can put up numbers like that.

So.....things are getting interesting. Brad Sams had some inside sources about the real reason Bonnie Ross left 343. Sounds like even Microsoft was not happy with that September update video. Of course, there's no official way of proving all this is true, but someone on the Halo subreddit broke down the video to the main points. That's interesting though that the contractor situation was supposedly not part of the problem.

For those in the US. Idk why there's still no other third party manufacturer other than Seagate.

Already saw this on Era and I pretty much agree with what was said in the Xbox OT. That being that this is a little gross from Brad and I'm disappointed in him, specifically the stuff about Bonnie, unless he is 100% sure with proof then he should frankly shut up. Especially since Brad has been the only insider called out by 343 multiple times in the past for inaccurate leaks and it seems like ever since then he has had an axe to grind against 343 for calling him out. He also had some weird comments on development in the past as if he doesn't really understand what he's talking about, and he continues it here by saying that the Halo TV Show Season 2 should be cancelled to focus on Halo Infinite...What? That literally makes zero sense, there is no overlap in who works on the Halo TV Show and who works on the games. Bonnie left due to a family emergency and that should be the end of it. The Halo fanbase got what they wanted, Bonnie is gone, move on. I don't see the point in Brad commenting on that part specifically, all it does it give ammo to those rabid extremist Halo fanboys who love to harass developers and if he's wrong then he's going to look like a massive c*nt. Bullet Point 1-2 are obvious, Joe basically already confirmed 2. Bullet Point 5 is a bit of a "no shit" as they've been losing senior employees all year, whether that was due to changing or people leaving, we don't know. I'd suspect Frankie will be next to go but the majority of the very top leadership has been changed already. Scope creep was already confirmed by Jason. I doubt that Brad knows how much money Microsoft put into Infinite and the "near $500m" number was debunked multiple times by 343 and other insiders. "The contractors were brought in to help 343 as a lifeboat" - Makes no sense, every single AAA title on the planet uses a huge number of contractors, they were brought in because that is what game development is, Halo Infinite has almost the same % of contractors as Gears 5 did. "He implies this wasn't the reason Halo Infinite ended up being terrible" - It wasn't THE reason as there were a number of issues but according to Jason Schirer it was a major issue (among other things) so to imply otherwise goes against what Jason says and Jason is about 200x more reliable than Brad when it comes to development stuff. |
Gotcha! I'll definitely be more iffy on Brad Sams if he tries to continue to "cover" anything really Halo related lol

Looks like we have a new breakdown video for Forge here soon

Tbh, I wouldn't exactly be surprised if Bonnie was simply asked to step aside, and they just didn't wanna frame it as such, whether that be out of respect for her, or they simply wanted to avoid a big story...who knows. In any case, it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened.
As Ryu said tho, at the end of the day, it's hardly important to us as consumers. 343 is getting an undeniably needed shake-up, and we can just leave it at that. Hopefully something good comes of it.
I don't want to talk trash about Bonnie, she's probably a nice person with skills and experience in the gaming industry, but for whatever reason things just weren't working out for her in 343. They should've let her go sooner and I'd be more confident Microsoft has a plan how to get Halo back on track. If she actually left because of personal reasons things could become even more messed up.

I've followed Brad for years and he had good leaks in the past (specifically about hardware/names) but when it comes to game development, he often says stuff which is like "ey?" and ever since 343 called out some of his leaks as being wrong (which they didn't do with anyone else) he has looked like he has had a grudge against them. Tbh Jason is one of few insiders that I trust almost 100% when it comes to game development issues, I posted above an image where Jason says one of Halo Infinite's biggest development problems was labour, so Brad is going against Jason and if I had to bet on the two, I'd always pick Jason, Lol. Brad himself said in the past. One of the challenges of building Halo Infinite is that a significant portion of the game is being outsourced to third-party contractors. This is not all that unusual but the coordination between the many different companies contributing to Infinite has been rough, at best. One person familiar with the company’s plans indicated that they believed the out-sourcing for Infinite was at a ratio higher than a typical studio undertakes during development which has caused significant headaches for cross-development collaboration. A Closer Look at Halo Infinite's Turbulent Journey - Thurrott.com Does 343 need more permanent staff or not? Was outsourcing/contractors a problem or not? Lol. Although, I've looked at 343's credits before and I honestly don't see that much crazy about it, if we take into account their size then the amount of contractors they use seems to make sense, they have a core few studios (Certain Affinity, Skybox and Sperasoft) and a bunch of minor support studios like everyone else and yet 343 still ends up with far less developers than competitors. Cold War for example has 4,901 developers compared to Halo Infinite's 2,607. Destiny 2 had 2,196 but Bungie's core studio was almost double 343's (Bungie had around 800 back then, 343 had around 500) and now Bungie is 1,393 compared to 343's 545. Battlefield V had 3,174 developers and I may be a bit of a Halo fanboy, but I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that a lot more is expected out of Halo than Battlefield/CoD in terms of content, Battlefield's campaign was such an afterthought that they dumped it for 2042, Lol. |
Not to mention CoD dumped the campaign in BO4 lol. Halo really is a league of its own in terms of what's expected from a new release. There's so many different issues going on with the studio it's probably not even worth trying to point out a single thing. It was a perfect storm of issues for 343. It seems more and more like a miracle that the game released in the first place at this point.
I just hope with Microsoft finally taking the reigns of the studio will have a very positive effect.

Another very odd thing that Brad Sams is trying to point out is the thought that Microsoft doing this huge change up as a reaction to the September update video. As if Microsoft has not been kept in the loop, or reached out to 343 for updates, post launch of the game to see how things are going. If you're spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a single game, you have to figure it's being heavily monitored.
