Just finished the first act of Middle-earth Shadow of War.
What an improvement over the first game so far. Mission design has improved immensely. Game world is far far bigger and far more diverse. Graphics look good (not that impressive but like a proper next gen title). There are some much needed improvements (better climbing, auto pick up arrows etc.).
How this game is barely an 80 on Metacritic and 4 points lower than Shadow of Mordor is beyond me. (Maybe because of the microtransaction stuff that has since been removed?)

Mostly microtransactions at launch. Also the game being an iteration on the previous one (I didn't see that as negative).

This is going to get like TV and movie streaming services. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, etc. We have what for gaming? Game Pass, PS Now, EA Access, and UPlay+?

Don't be surprised if we get more in the end, from a few of the other publishers who release enough games per year to justify a subscription service. I just hope that alot of the smaller publishers continue to partner with Xbox for Gamepass once that happens, and not with Sony on PS Now instead.

I am very curious about this. Early this gen Microsoft allowed EA Access as a cool point of differentiation with Playstation.

If they start allowing multiple third party subscription services people may very quickly start to view the Xbox as a gateway to a very expensive monthly fee. As Gamepass matures I actually anticipated them going the other way - towards consolidating around Gamepass as their primary, and perhaps only, subscription service outside vanilla Xbox Live.

On the other hand, some say more choice is always good. I just think we're already seeing early signs of subscription fatigue in the TV space. Gaming is in the position to learn from those mistakes and offer a more viable sharing model under only 1 or 2 subscriptions.

UPlay+ exists on PC for like $15 bucks a month atm. No doubt we'll see it on consoles soon enough.

Seems Uplay+ has day one Ubi games, same as Gamepass with XGS games. EA is falling behind. Will probably sub to Uplay+ for a month or two if it's on XSX at release, to play AC Ragnarok and Watch Dogs Legions since they're expected to be launch titles.

EA have had a similar service on PC for a while now I first noticed it when Anthem launched (could of been around longer) that let you access and play games a few days to a week before release and whilst your subbed you have access to their new games.

EA Access is for consoles I believe, while for PC it is called Origin Access.

Yeah the PC one is called Origin Access Premier and costs £14.99 per month or £89.99 per year and gives you access to their new releases at launch and usually a few days early along with their back catalogue.

So it is very similar to Game Pass giving you access to all EA games day one (and even earlier). Imagine if Game Pass gave you access to Microsoft games a few days early?

I actually think Microsoft's plan is to avoid giving you it early on Gamepass in the hopes you buy the Ultimate Edition to play 4 days early has have been the trend with their big releases for the past few years.

The games list for Origin Premier is here. and after a while the games go into the Basic service which is the same price as EA access on Xbox.

My dream three:

Playground Fable project
Crimson Skies 2
Non-motor sports Turn10 Forza, something akin to Rallisport Challenge 3, or a new PGR

GamePass Ultimate subscriber got the Gears 5 Ultimate Edition early access

Oh yeah I forgot about that I guess they did recently change to making the 4 day early perk of Gamepass a thing.

Tbf Xbox's marketing has been random this year, I'm taking this as Lockhart isn't being revealed this month.

Or perhaps no Lockhart ever and Series X will be 1st-party's baseline for next-gen!  :D

One simply can’t remain competitive with PS with the same priced console. Brand simply is too powerful. You need something a couple hundred cheaper to cut through the noise.

I always picture Lockhart to be like the Series X in graphics but locked to 1080p. Think of the small TV gamers, the non 4K gamers, they need love too ;)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I genuinely have a lot of love for Crysis, so I'd be stoked to see a new entry.
