It's just a show of support to anyone who may have different pronouns. Literally just a few extra characters, no big deal, it's easy to ignore. |
I'd be curious to know if people who actually have a need to inform people of their pronouns really feel supported by this type of thing, or not. Like, to me, I think if I identified as a woman, and had to constantly make that known to people I surround myself with, it would seem like such an empty gesture for those who don't really have to worry about being misgendered at all to make this show of always putting their pronouns in their social media bios, corporate headers, etc. Or like, if I met someone out in public, introduced myself, and gave my pronouns - again, cus I had to - and then the other person responded by also telling me their pronouns despite it being perfectly obvious...that could so easily come across as mocking. Even if they said it in a perfectly normal tone, I would always be wondering in the back of my head...are they making fun of me right now?
