Colin Moriarty’s take on the MS publisher acquisition rumor just shows how much of a fanboy he is, his comments on the XGS studios is plain stupid.

Pretty much all of the studios that they bought pre Bethesda were all studios that had financial trouble and uncertain futures outside of Playground and Undead Labs who have only made games for Xbox dude is also acting like PlayStation has only had organic growth in their history.

How can he judge how MS have handled those studios when none of them have yet to release a game that has started completely under MS from conception to completion.

Ignore the flame bait headline and just focus on the clip.

They are scared that MS is actually investing in their product, so what is the alternative that they want? MS not support Xbox and let it die so Sony would become a monopoly?

Saw that the other day making the rounds.

1) Imagine getting worked by a low effort rumor.

2) Does seem like a problem for other camp as well. Insomniac a new purchase is carrying PS right now with what 4 games, two that have released within the year and two more in development.

3) 2017 for Xbox was a dark time, yes. Lionhead closed, Scalebound cancelled, but that happens in the other camp too.

Honestly I don't have an issue with this clip. It's true that the Bethesda acquisition is something that is very damaging to gamers on other platforms, and the consolidation of everything under one exclusive roof is not good for the industry and is anti-consumer. The less exclusive content the better for gamers so buying a massive publisher and locking their titles off other platforms isn't a good thing.

I love my Series S, I love Bethesda games and will play them on my xbox, but I won't kid myself that this isn't a worrying move and I don't want to see Nintendo/PlayStation lose even more titles because Microsoft pay money.

It’s fine if people on other platforms (mainly PS since PC isn’t affected) are upset at the Bethesda purchase, as for Nintendo let’s not kid ourselves Bethesda already moved onto next-gen at that point and they were not getting those new titles anyway.

His comments towards the XGS studios like DoubleFine and Ninja Theory were so stupid, saying what was the point of buying them?

Dude fails to realize that DoubleFine has always had money problems and had to use Kickstarter for Psychonauts 2 and that Ninja Theory have always been in financial trouble and were worried about potentially shutting down (DMC was the first game where the studio actually received royalties) so Him trying to spin those purchases off as a negative is dumb and he doesn’t understand the reason why they joined MS in the 1st place and the need for MS to make those moves (they only had 5 development studios at that time).

I'm not surprised. Most of those Kinda Funny Games guys always rubbed me the wrong way, especially Greg Miller, but Colin is pretty bad as well. Biased fanboys the lot of them.

Never liked them even they worked at IGN.

Oh somehow I didn't catch that particular point.

The problem I see with it is the hypocrisy more than anything else. Colin Moriarty never calls out Sony when they acquire a studio like Insomniac, or moneyhat a 3rd party game away from Xbox (like they have done with 6 AAA games in recent years; FF7R, FF16, Forspoken, Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, KOTOR remake). In fact, he and his type usually praises Sony when they do those things, because they are Sony gamers and Sony doing those things benefits them.

I've seen a bit of Kinda Funny stuff in the past and there's no doubt that they definitely have a strong PlayStation bias imo. Though I'd argue that things like the Insomniac acquisition and per-game deals isn't anywhere near the level of buying a massive publisher like Bethesda that will see historic franchises missing from other consoles for decades. Insomniac have been practically PlayStation exclusive since they were founded, even before their acquisition. Of their 22 console games released prior to Sony acquiring them 19 were exclusive to PlayStation consoles. Buying a timed exclusive or getting a deal for a single exclusive title is also much different from acquiring a publisher permanently.

Sony may pay money to keep kotor off xbox for a year or two, FF etc. They didn't pay money to permanently keep off franchises with decades of history like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, Doom... MS could start an arms-race that hurts everyone. They bought an arsenal of beloved IP.

But yes I won't deny Kinda Funny definitely are very pro-sony.

I agree with the part of your post I didn't quote.

The thing is...it doesn't really affect a PS gamer that much if Bethesda games aren't on PS in the future, because you'll just be able to stream it to whatever low end PC you might have, or your smart TV, your tablet, or whatever it may be. Point is, if you wanna play those games, you won't have to go very far out of your way to do so. And I don't wanna hear anything about bad internet, because if you got the money to shell out on a 500 dollar console, 70 dollar games, and a decent 4k TV...then you got money for decent internet.

Where can I play new games from studios and/or potential publishers that Sony buys? Nowhere but on PlayStation for at least like 2 years before they maybe port it to PC, if they do at all...and what, God of War got stuck on PSNow like 3 years after release? So waiting for them to put games on their streaming service is no good either. MS buying people is close to 0 inconvenience compared to Sony buying shit.
