It doesn't matter how far away those Sony games actually are. Sony was the market leader last generation, they already have that advantage in their favor, simply knowing that so many AAA games are coming to PS5 this generation is enough reason for people on the fence to go with PS5 instead of Xbox Series. Fact of the matter is, Sony has more AAA games of significance announced and rumored than MS does, between their 1st party, their 2nd party, and all of these AAA timed hats from 3rd parties. Starfield and TES 6 are massive games, but Sony proved last gen that many of their 1st party IP are now capable of breaking the 15m barrier and even the 20m barrier, so Sony still has more games in that sales tier than MS has, plus all of these somewhat smaller but still AAA hatted exclusives. And while Sony was likely always going to win this generation, the generation didn't have to be the landslide in Sony's favor that it is shaping up to become. If MS had tried hard enough, spent enough, fought fire with fire in regards to moneyhats, the gap at the end of the generation could have been very small, like the gap between PS3 and 360 at the end of that gen. But MS has allowed Sony such a big early gen advantage both by failing in terms of hardware production contracts and allowing Sony so many timed hat deals, that there is little to no hope of such a small gap at the end of the generation now, not unless they go all out and hat another big publisher and make that publishers games exclusive. You say I'm too wrapped up in the competition, but that is not the case at all. I really couldn't care less about the console wars, what matters to me is getting to play the games I want to play on the system I prefer, and not feeling forced to spend $500 on a PS5 early gen would I would much rather have waited and bought a PS5 Slim for say $250 or 300 mid-late gen to play 1st party games that I wanted to play like Horizon and God of War. Fact of the matter is, MS allowing Sony to walk all over them with all of these timed hats deals and big 2nd party deals, and allowing Sony such a big early gen hardware lead, makes it easier and cheaper for Sony to hat even more games in the future, keeping them off the system I want to play them on, Xbox Series X. It also makes it harder for MS to win Japanese developer support, one reason why 360 had much better JP support than any other Xbox system is because Xbox sales in the west were just too large for Japanese devs to ignore, but allowing Sony to dominate Xbox even in the west, like MS is doing this gen, makes Japanese developers more likely to balk at the prospects of an Xbox release. |
