Sony is attempting to hat Bioshock 4 now according to Nick. This 3rd party hatting kick they are on is getting ridiculous now:

Guess MS will have to keep acquiring publishers and studios until Sony finally realizes they can't compete with Microsoft's cash reserves and ends this 3rd party hatting nonsense.

I'm sure Sony knows they can't which is why they're going after timed exclusive deals instead of buying studios, I don't see this changing anytime soon. Hopefully they continue being timed deals and not lifetime exclusives.

I don't blame Sony for going to timed exclusive moneyhatts. In studios MS outnumbers them now with Bethesda and they don't have Microsoft money to outbid them in acquiring studios.

Playin dirty.... I want MS to respond in kind but also don't want people on other platforms to miss out on games/content. Probably the worst practice out there outside of pay2win lootboxes.

How many 3rd party games have MS got of late though, like the Medium, Stalker, Scorn... for example. Seems to be a few. While they're not as big still not a great look.

I do hope both cut it out.

Well, speaking for myself, there's a pretty big difference between indies (which Sony has timed deals with too) and big established 3rd party publishers. I don't mind as much with indies because they can use the extra support, but from someone like SE, I personally don't like or respect that.

What is okay for me

- indies

- Making a game in partnership (making an exclusive with a 3rd party game from the start in collaboration with Sony/MS)

Not okay to me

- 3rd party games by big publishers that would 100% be multiplatform if not for timed deals

That is sort of true, though Sony has more money on hand right now than you think. I believe I read they have something like $20b cash on hand, plus the ability to sell some of their own stock as part of an acquisition offer, like they did with Insomniac. They could even afford one of the mid price publishers if they wanted to, like Koei Tecmo, Square Enix, Ubisoft, or Sega, as long as it didn't turn into a huge bidding war with MS (and honestly I'm not even sure if MS would get into a big bidding war for some of the JP publishers sadly).

I think this would turn into a bidding war. Microsoft had gamepass and Xcloud now if they want to reach more gamers they need these genres. Xcloud and gamepass would lose a lot of appeal in Asia if Sony acquired a major Japanese publisher.

So I think Sony has 3 choices; 1- After a few years be outdone by MS first party since they have more studios 2- Try to acurie more studios and publishers but risk getting into a bidding war with Microsoft 3- Moneyhatt third party games and it makes a lot of sense with them going for the third option.

MS literally got like 15 new studios in the last 3 years it's naive to expect sony to "play fair" they have to stay competitive.

Ok, a collab from the start is acceptable or when the game literally needs the funds to get released, otherwise it's the same imo. Did blooper need the money? Maybe, probably not though. Warhammer dev, whoever that is probably didn't need it either. STALKER? Again, likely no.

They're games not on ps5 because the same reason and would fall under your "not ok" criteria. Warhammer and Blooper titles have released on ps4, no reason to think they wouldn't do so again.

The difference being, SE and Capcom are huge publishers, Bloober and Ember Labs (Ones doing Kena) are not. These are my personal feelings towards "moneyhatting". Big Publishers should be above this
