So this is my own thoughts on Miyamoto's thoughts on wanting to be as big as Disney.

Mostly the fact that expanding on the concept is something Disney's been doing recently, and I think that Nintendo could do a pretty good job at it. Particularly if they want to circumvent video game issues from parents.

For example Star Wars: I mean we all hear the issues with things like Solo and Last Jedi, but there are of course the side materials. Their E.U. As listed on TV tropes.

Books, Video Games (Last Jedi and some gruff), TV shows, Audio Plays....

Heck they should know all about that: Pokemon's series is kind of a thing. 

With that I have to wonder about the potential of Nintendo bringing their material out of video games and into other fields in force as things more than guides and children spin off material, and what ones can work. 

Mario, Kirby, and Animal Crossing can't work for it I think....though given Dora had a successful film and Green Eggs and Ham is apparently good on Netflix maybe it could work. But they do have better franchises. 

Pokemon's the obvious one: given everything from knowing most game players are older to the success of the Generations web series I'm sure that further use of the franchise would work. 

A Pokemon literature universe could be rather interesting, and I somehow doubt money would be a issue. 

Then you have Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Splatoon. We all hear about Castlevania esc takes on them for Netflix, and I'm sure Zelda could, again, support a book universe. Maybe the others in time: though Metroid's a bit niche and Splatoon a bit young. 

Seems an obvious place to start: get a team at Nintendo to start a writing imprint with animation exploration. I doubt it would be a hard sell to get people wanting to write such things for Nintendo. 

Heck you want an example of this: Disney again. 

Rick Riordan, the Percy Jackson guy (whose publisher is owned by Disney) started an Imprint whose basic premise is 'use my name to sell other mythology books'. With editing and forwarding by him, and just the others, books are sold that range from 'Rick style but Hindu' to 'Korean Space Mythology Opera'. 

He had writers come quickly from start until today (and expand their contracts quickly), sold a million books (possibly just in print) in a year, and still gets more. And Rick Riordan is no Nintendo.



The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

To be honest that Pokemon movie didn't really do huge box office itself either, "bigger than Disney" is probably not a realistic goal, though I suspect that wasn't the serious intention.
