Forums - Sony Discussion - The big 3 for Shenmue lll (Metacritic, Sales, purchase)

The reviews will come in a few hours from now. Don't really expect a lot...

My game is still in transit

Your item departed a transfer airport in METROPOLITAN AREA, VANCOUVER, CANADA on November 18, 2019 at 10:57 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

That plane should have landed by now...

Meta - around 50
Sales - around 500k
Will I buy it - I'd like to, but firstly I need to play first two games. It's unfortunate how the game looks...like the early sixth gen title based on animations and wooden facial expressions. If they're going to complain for budget, look what developers did with A Plague Tale, and their budget was not that big either. I understand A Plague tale is strictly linear game, but nevertheless...
Or we can mention Yakuza games, they look incredible. Even seventh gen Yakuza games are miles better than Shenmue. And those games are also open world

But, I'm happy that game is finally out and that fans will get their ending. I hope that game wuld not be that bad

It's not the ending. There's at least 2 more Shenmue games after part 3.

Meta: 65
Sales: not many

Oh shit! I forgot about this.

Im surprised that most of you believe at least 500k is locked down while at the same expecting average to below average meta. I dont think that there is that many dedicated shenmue fans. I'm like 350k at most by end of the year.I think that number still high.

There's 3 reviews already on Metacritic, 1 more and it will have a score.

It's 50, 60 and 70 though, so not looking good :

Strange thing is that the user review is very high, 84.

I don't really think it's that strange. Shenmue fans were obviously going to love Shenmue 3, the game was tailor made for them. Critics on the other hand are unable to get over hangups they have about the decisions that Yu Suzuki made, decisions to purposefully make the game feel outdated and hyper realistic so that the tone of the game wouldn't feel incongruous with Shenmue 1 and 2. Critics can't seem to realize that Shenmue 3 wasn't made to win over new fans, it was made to cater to the existing fanbase of Shenmue. And several of these critics have never played a Shenmue game before, you can tell that by looking at their reviews.

There were 16 3 or less score with all claiming to be fan or paying for the kickstarter.

If the game is enough to get a 84 on fan then it should be at least some 60 meta, so the 40 and 50 are still lower than should. Will only be more certain when I play it.

I suspect that alot of the negative user reviews are actually from the Epic Games Store hater crowd, angry because Deep Silver made the game Epic Game Store exclusive for a year on PC. I've seen that crowd leave bad user reviews on other Epic Game Store exclusives as well, even on the console versions of those games. Some might be legitimate complaints from actual Shenmue fans, but it's always hard to tell on Metacritic, the metacritic user review system is well know for being a flaming pile of garbage most of the time. I tend to trust user reviews on the digital storefronts much more, because you actually need to own a game to review it on the digital storefronts like Playstation Store and Xbox Store, and right now on Playstation Store Shenmue 3 has 84 reviews on the standard edition and 69 reviews on the Digital Deluxe Edition, both at 5/5 stars (reviews on Playstation Store round up from the nearest half star, so that means that the average is somewhere over 4.5/5 stars or 9/10).

Yes half of the bad scores were complaining about the Epic, even though it was the PS4 version.
