Only played it for about 2-3 hours, but Im really not feeling it tbh. I just don't want to play it. Ill give it some more time I guess.

EDIT: Played for a few more hours and it is getting better, but man those first 3-4 hours were a bit crappy.

Sword/Shield will go down as one of the most controversial Pokemon mainline titles ever released. People either love it or hate it. Gamefreak has played it safe for a long time with previous entries, but their transition to HD (which is probably the most ambitious) should be seen as a learning experience. I'm sure that the next title, or even the Sword/Shield ultimate will fix alot of the problems people have.

Yeah I really thought it was weird that the Donkey poke'mon has a signature kick move with a kicking animation, but when he does the doublekick fighting move he doesn't just do that animation twice. Instead he just does a 2 inch jump into the air. Also Scorbunny has an animation in his Poke'dex profile that could have been used for the doublekick move.

The best explaination I can think of is that Gamefreak might want to keep some of the old animations for nostolgia's sake. Kind of like how we still hear digitized Poke'mon screams, instead of smoother sound files. If true, then criticizing Poke'mon for lazy animations would be as silly as criticizing Dragonquest for 8 bit sound effects.

But that's just a theory, and we'd have to ask the developers.

No need for theorys, we've known why for months. Game Freak brought attention to their low quality themselves when they tried to push high quality animations as a reason for the cuts, that by getting rid of Pokemon, the ones left will be improved with more expressiveness. Of course we're then going to point out the fact that every returning Pokemon model and it's animations were ripped straight from the 3DS the same as they were in Let's Go, and the new Pokemon share the same minimalist style of animation as does the game at large. There are exceptions like the opening cut scene with the starters that show Game Freak is capable of quality, but just can't be bothered to apply that to the majority of the game.

For full context, this is the quote from the Tree House demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmWu-f6L0Mo @25:30

"But with the transition to the Nintendo Switch hardware with it being much more powerful allowing us to be much more expressive with each of the individual Pokemon. And now we're well over 800 Pokemon species in the games. At Game Freak we really spent a lot of time thinking about what the best way to move forward was, really preserving the quality of all the different Pokemon while also taking into account the battle balance having so many different Pokemon available all within limited development time so we don't keep fans waiting too long for every new entry in the series.

After a lot of discussion we decided to come to a new direction, and so what that means for Sw/Sh is that players will be able to transfer their Pokemon from Pokemon Home only if they appear in the Galar region Pokedex. So we were very careful we spent a lot of time really thinking what the best selection of Pokemon to match the setting of the adventure would be. I'll talk about more details in future opportunitys such as media interviews but I wanted to let you know today."

Summary from an interview shortly after: https://www.siliconera.com/game-freak-says-it-will-be-hard-for-all-pokemon-to-appear-even-in-games-after-pokemon-sword-shield/

"Masuda reiterates that with the shift to the Switch, the amount of time needed to make the graphics more beautiful and the animations more lively has increased. Another aspect is the fact that the Pokemon series has reached over 1,000 Pokemon (including form changes), and as such, apart from the graphics, balancing for new Pokemon with new abilities has become very hard. This is the reason behind the decision this time, and they have judged that it will be hard for all the Pokemon to appear, even in titles going forward. This was a decision that had to be made sooner or later, according to Masuda."

"According to Ohmori, even in Pokemon Sun & Moon, bringing in every Pokemon was something barely manageable, and with Pokemon Sword & Shield and the need to redo models, and so they had to make a decision. However, Ohmori says that despite this, the Wild Areas and story will have quite a bit of content to make up for it."

They said that going forward they'll continue with the cuts (see above), cycling Pokemon in and out on a whim. With this game undoubtedly going to sell +10 million, they have no reason to fix anything, only to cut corners further.

I was about to say keep at it, I felt the same way at first.  I am having a blast, but man does it have a slow start.  It was about 3 hours in for me too when it all started to click and the game picked up.

The level of Millennial entitlement meltdowns in this thread is hysterical.

For the record: it’s not abnormal for sequels to have a different set of features from previous games in the franchise.

The guy above me is OUTRAGED that someone else is not sharing His OUTRAGE about some trivial animation. Does anyone else see the absurdity of this?

How do you know it is millenial entitlement dear Jumpin ?

I agree that too much time is spent with being upset because others arent, nothing constructive about that.

I don't, it's just funnier to label it as such due to the stereotype.

Plus, I would guess the vast majority of the meltdowns are from millennials anyway.

It's because you're immature.

You're missing the point of my post. I couldn't care less why you are freaking out. I'm laughing at the absurdity of your OUTRAGE over a Pokemon game. You see, by the age of 4 or 5, the majority of people have grown out of taking temper tantrums over things that don't go their way.

People are enraged because they were lied to, and are getting a low quality product from a massive series from a massive corporation.

It's nothing new, people act like that every time a big game fails to meet standarts or is badly perceived.

People trashed games like Sonic '06 and Boom, people trashed Fallout 76, people trashed Anthem, and so on.

The absurdity is that we have people that defended it this time, because it's Pokemon.

They did the same with Bethesda with them continuosly showing they didn't care, until we got Fallout 76.

That's what is happening with GameFreak now, some people have been pointing out their incompetence and lack of interest to invest to make better games but the majority kept defending, until we got Sword and Shield.

The difference was that GF still had the 3DS excuse, where low quality was still quite passable.

Now a lot of people are enraged with them because of the flaws of their products, the lack of care about the fanbase and lying to them, and want to make it clear it not get yet another pass, so the company feel the need to change.

That's what's happening here, fans are finally realising they don't need to accept anything and are mad with how they are being treated.

The fact you call it millennial entitlement is very telling on how out of touch with the situation you are and how quick you jump to generalization to show your ignorance (as in lack of understanding) and try to use it as an artifact to make it looks bad, which is honestly quite sad.

If anyone is enraged, then that person needs anger management classes.

Even if we grant that Gamefreak lied, and even if we assume it was done with particular malice, there is still no reason to be enraged, because the lie did not in any way negatively impact you.  The game was available for all to see well before release, and relevant facts detailed. By the time the game came out, they had ample opportunity to see what the game was like. If you think it's a low quality product, then the appropriate response is to not purchase it.  If you feel like you need to explain why you don't want to buy it, then I'm not going to tell you how you should spend your time.

But to be mad is to imply that Gamefreak somehow cheated you out of something.  That they had some duty to you that they did not properly fill.  In other words, that you were entitled to something.

I've read your post in its original form and you likened Sword/Shield to Sonic 06, Sonic Boom, Fallout 76 and Anthem. That's a clear sign of outrage, because if you had had a calm mind, you would have realized how inappropriate the comparison is.

Jumpin's behavior is immature, but it's also true that your post wasn't deserving of an elaborate and respectful response.

Purposely silly idea of what a clear sign of outrage is aside, savy members the Pokemon community have actually taken to fixing this game much like with Sonic 06 and Fallout.

If they are successful in adding in all Pokemon, it'll be real tempting for me to hack my Switch!

Your posts come with mass generalization to downplay things and now you have literally downplayed my post by changing my words for "blah" and I'm the immature here?

1. And I'm freaking out and outraged? Where? Stop switching words for blah and learn to actually read them and maybe you can actually form an opinion on what you talk about.

I'm at a loss of words here, like, shit, what is going on here? You are talking about 4 or 5 years old temper tantrums but seems like you haven't grown through that age yourself, 2. you are actually talking like a child.

1. That's what you indicated in your last post, yes.

2. That's the point. Congratulations, the irony wasn't lost on you.

For what it's worth, I probably came off more dickish than I intended =)

I'm pretty sure there was no irony in your posts.

But anyway I asked you where, show me where I'm freaking out in my post, please.

When I indicated that you got the irony, I was being sarcastic. It's clear it went over your head.

You said that you were enraged in your last post. I know you claimed it was other people, but then you went on with this lengthy defence argument. Do you expect me to believe you were not speaking for yourself?
