Uhh... no?

Risk their entire game business? Guess you forget about the PS1, PS2, and PSP. And even if they did, has it worked out? Uhh... yeah. They won the format war, and the PS3 is selling much healthier since then.

The only people who believe sony 'risked their gaming business for Blu-Ray' are people who fail to see that there was no risk there, simply an opportunity that presented itself, and worked out for the better of the company as a whole.

Well we disagree then. Not that the PS3 will thrive. It will. However if HD had won, things might have turned out a lot less rosy. After losing 2/3 of all money the PS brand had made from all time, they got the BR.victory and turned the PS3 brand around. In that time they also killed off B/C, and dethroned themselves as the undisputed kings of the gaming world. That my friend is risk. It all worked out, but they did risk the gaming division. In your own words, you said they saw an opportunity. So you made my arguement. They took a risk in the name of business. So did M$.it's all business.

I would contest your argument that "it all worked out."  They may have permenantly lost any chance of gaming dominance, have definately lost $2-3 billion only to gain a Blu-Ray victory that by all accounts won't come clost to the dominance DVD still has.  Between downloads and DVD, the question in not whether Blu-Ray will be a massive success, it's whether it will be a moderate success or not worth it.

On the other hand, the gaming industry is in a general upswing compared to the movie and home video industry's that are in a general downswing.  As many Sony fanboys have pointed out, what would have happened to Sony's gaming business if the PS3 had launched at $400?  If they'd done that, they still would have had a better shot than Toshiba at clinching the Format War (Blu-Ray had more backers).

As much as I really want to be involved in this war *sigh*, isnt it the best thing for the fans if it was actually this big? If I was a hardcore GTA fan (and we know there are many of them), the bigger the DLC is, the better.

I'm not going to argue about this whole Blu-Ray, Sony, and PlayStation thing, A) Because it's annoying, and B) because I could give you 1 million reasons why it was good and you can do the exact opposite...

Back on topic:

Two cities on DLC means that anyone who bought the Arcade is royally screwed...  I 'reckon' that most likely this EEC is just a few mission packs.

Lol, funny, that whole paragraph seemed VERY argumentative

I think that if it is just missions it will be a hell of a lot of them.  But think about it.  If you own the PS3 version of GTAIV it has to annoy you even more if Xbox 360 owners get extra missions in the same area.  If that is the case, you'd have to think its likely they were already in the game but that Rockstar took them out to use for DLC.

Oh and I saw that Aussie slang mate, but it's ok, given your an honourary Australian

I think City or missions, it will be of a big size. I think as a fan of GTA, you would be gutted not to have it. As a casual GTA player it's not gonna bother you. Just cant see MS risking the cost of a high end game production for an extra bit of small content. Loan or not it's still a risk. And as I mentioned that loan money went to getting the game done. Without it we may not have had GTA4. Take 2 were in serious Sh*t.

I just noticed but there's a hell of a lot of Exclamation points in this thread title. It's very distracting.

Hello

First, i'm sorry if somebody has already posted this idea, i didnt read all the posts, just half of it.

I have thought about one very good business related reason that could explain why MS and Take Two dont publicize or explain more what exactly the DLC are.

If the DLC really are as enormous as some claim (i kind of doubt it but...), a lot of potential ps3 buyers wouldn't buy the ps3 version and would switch to the x360 version. Of course, it would be very good for MS but not that good for Take Two.

So maybe Take Two has a deal with MS that says they cant explain exactly what the DLC are until the game is out for 1 week or 1 month (or something like that).

That would let ps3 gamers enough time for buying millions of gtaiv without knowing about the DCL. Then they would finally tell us the real size and importance of these DLCs and if its really huge, well the ps3 gamers are screwed and they only have option if they dont want to be left in the dust, that's buying the x360 version.

Bye guys.

Zones : I still don't understand all the love for Blizzard, what was the last game they developed worth playing?
