Forums - Nintendo - Super Smash Bros sales predictions

As you probably know SSBB hit 4million with the Japanesse numbers this week (in 11 weeks) at this point Super Smash bros was at ~800,000 and Melee was at just over a million on their respective sales and in their respective generations.

 My questions are:

1.  When do you think SSBB will pass the original (5.55m) and then Melee (7.08m) in terms of sales?

2. Does SSBB have a chance to pass Melee and the original combined in terms of sales (~12.63m)

3. What are you predictions of SSBB's final sales numbers?

Currently dreaming of: DKC4 or Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (classic 2D platformers) for WiiWare, Smash Bros. for DSi, New Super Mario World for DSi, a Wii remake or true sequel of Final Fantasy Tactics.

One down, hopefully more awesomeness to come.

To answer my own questions:

1. I think SSBB will pass 5.55 million by the end of the summer, and 7.08 by sometime in the holiday season.

2. I think SSBB has a small chance of hitting 12.63m and therefore beating its predacessors combined but it will not happen until the end of holiday 2009 or sometime in 2010 (if it does happen).

3. Somewhere in the 11.5-12.5m range is my thoughts for SSBB's final sales.

I think the Others launch(es) may not be as strong as Japan or NA (definately) but will still be a huge push to SSBB's sales, this combined with the Wii's enourmous legs will help to push SSBB's sales.

1. Yes. Will beat SSB before the end of June 08, Melee before Christmas
2. Maybe, but I'll lean towards no.
3. 11 million lifetime

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709

1. Sometime at the end of the summer; after Christmas.
2. It's possible. Sales of more than 10 million are hard to reach, for many many games. I think there's a chance, since the Wii should continue to grow in install base, and SSBB appeals to many types of people, so it should have decent legs. Also, SSBM sold 6+ million on the GC, which only had a userbase of 21 million or so. It'll probably be close, either way.
3. 10 million my guess
