I stared at Metal Mario forever. I swam with the fish. I surfed on turtle's shells. I could not stop smiling. The wait for the Project Reality/Ultra 64/Nintendo 64 had totally paid off. Miyamoto hit the bull's eye with that one. An instant classic.

Mine was...

This is ok... it looks kinda crappy compared to the well made 2-D sprites of Super Mario World... doesn't control as well... it might of been a system to early for 3-D... then again it's a pretty great start.

Which is still how i feel. Everyone went 3D too early. That era was really a transitional era from the greatness of the SNES to the greatness of the PS2.

 Though, platformer wise... Mario 64 did beat anything i'd played on the N64, PS1, PS2 or gamecube.

I got it on launch day, and it was absolutely jaw-dropping. I remember first going down the slide in the first snow level (can't recall the name). It was one of the greatest gaming experiences I've yet had. Swimming in the Sunken Ship level is up there as well.

I hated the analog stick at first. But then again, I hate the N64 controller.

That opinion quickly changed, however.

I never liked Mario 64 and I still don't. That's probably why I never bought an N64. Goldeneye was great playing w/friends, but Mario 64 was meh...I prefer the older 2d Mario games over Mario 64. SMG is pretty fun, but I just never could get into Mario 64.
