Forums - Nintendo - SuperMario64:what did you feel when you played it first?

SuperMario64 is a 3-d platformer done right.

in fact,it might be a 3-d platformer done perfect.

the game that brought the "extremely athletic for the way he looks" plumber to the 3rd dimension, can also be called one of the best games ever.one small step for the plumber, one giant triple leap for the industry

what id like to know is how you felt when you first saw mario,in 3-d,ran around just for fun before realising the game had some objectives too,did the first cannon-shoot etc?

my first reaction was amazement at the fluidity of mario's movements. as sublime as ever, and with an added dimension.

over to you

I thought it was the greatest game I've ever played and I still think it's one of the greatest.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

I didnt think games or graphics could get any better but I was young. Still 1 of the greatest games ever.

I was stunned by the transition of graphics from the SNES to the N64, especially Super Mario 64, and when I played it I thought it was even better.

It was an incredible game. Before Mario 64 I was a Sega fanboy but that game sold me on the system. The fact that it still holds up to this day speaks volumes. Best game ever.

It was the biggest metaphysical gaming boner ever.

Total apathy.

(Sorry just my opinion)

Friends of mine loved it, and played the game for hours on end. I just couldn't get into the game, it didn't appeal to me at all.

Now Goldeneye...there was a game.

I remember playing it at Target a dozen times. It seemed like the greatest game at first. The graphics seemed much better than what I had seen on the PS and the controller was also cool.

I later decided it was too open and the controls were difficult. If I ever sat down with it for a couple hours I'd likely get the hang of it (I was able to finally master Tomb Raider by doing this) but I never did.

I didn't play it when it first came out.

So naturally, I thought it was pretty meh. I'm still not the biggest fan, it plays very strange and UnMario like to me. I think the gameplay should been done in a matter much more like Galaxy, which is a masterpiece.

Top 3 favorite games: Super Mario Galaxy, The Sims 2 (PC), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

That it was the best game ever.
