Forums - Sony - PS3 sales in Japan this week.......

how bad did the psp do in japan at its worst

Around the Network

not to sound to optimistic hear, but I have a strong suspicion that the reason PS3 numbers have been so low in recent weeks comes down to this, people waiting for the MGS4+Dualshock3+PS3 bundle, or the gun metal version.

I mean why buy the console now when you can get it in a bundle with a highly anticipated game with a lower price tag than if bought separately.

that's my 2 cents

That might be so Jake, but that's a long wait for us to see decent numbers again. MGS4 doesn't come out til June, that's alot of weeks of extremely poor sales to look ahead to if that is the reason.

...

That's really horrible. Valkyria Chronicles should help some, but I fear it will be too niche to do much. It should at least stay over 10k a week until MGS4 releases, I'd hope.

its kind of a fare point being as they sold out at some point with the pre-orders on that bundle, but the sales of the ps3 at ht emoment would not be this bad just because of that

Yeah, hopefully Valkyria Chronicles will push it back over 20k a week. That comes out in a week or two. Wii sales haven't been that impressive either, the only console that has been doing very well is the PSP.

They've been very good. 50k for this part of the season is awesome -- note that the Wii continues to track above the PS2 in Japan.  It's also worth nothing that even monsters like the PS2 spend a lot of weeks in the cellar, to speak, selling about 30k/week.  The Wii seems to be a little less software-dependent than the PS2 so it doesn't see the lower lows or the higher highs.

8K is just terrible, and suggests that it's not a high demand product.

It's been coming down week by week. Seems like Japan dont like PS3 or 360. Wierd.

Sony needs to get Slim model of PS3(with BC). It helped PSP a lot.

Japan seems to have lost interest in consoles almost altogether, IMO. That market is totally dominated by handhelds.

I disagree.

I think you are trying to draw attention and blame away from the PS3 and its continuing failure, by blaming the market.

In fact, check out this graph of the PS3 vs the PS3 vs the Wii in Japan, from launch, and you'll see that the only home console doing terribly in Japan is the PS2 and the 360.

In fact, for this time of year, for the Wii to consistantly put up 50k units, and for Mario Kart to sell 600k software units in one week, I'd say that the Japanese home console market is booming.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

that's the problem with these type of things, the same thing happened when the PSP lite was introduced, Sony tried so hard to deny it because they new people would stop buying the older PSP and wait till the new one was released, but in that case in was only a short term thing, this however is  longer wait, and while it's good new for those sitting on the fence and in general creating buzz and interest it does have the down side lowering sales as people gear up for the new game plus bundles that come.

I guess another factor is the fact that with the bundle comes the revival of the backwards compatible 80GB PS3 in japan, well I think that's the case, too sleepy to remember. lol
