Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony's Deal With Microsoft Blindsided Its Own PlayStation Team

I think this is great news, both companies win. Sony gain a stable state of the art cloud service and MS continue to rake in millions by suppling a cloud network in the gaming industry and takes some of the pressure off Xbox consoles. This will put pressure on Google and Apple.

I wonder if any of this has to do with Sony not appearing at E319.. its a little strange that a mega deal like this gets formed and Sony drops out if the biggest gaming event for the first time. Anyway I might be looking too much into that one

Bloomberg is credible. They report from a business point of view.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV (360+PS3) would outsell SSBB. I was wrong.

While Bloomberg might be credible we do not know about the sources, do we?

Is there any good reason to doubt them? It's common for companies the size of Sony that individual divisions don't work in synergy and even sign contracts with other business partners that contradict the goals of another division. This case here is merely one of the highest level of leadership making a deal for a division without said division being completely in the know about what's going on, so it's not even a big story. Hence why the full article doesn't spend much time on it.

Mostly credible.

Their recent Huawei news has been wrong. twice I believe. But Yeah they are usually credible, their sources are another thing though.

Some people will always freak out when they hear something, even more when it doesn't have much details but show a lot of changes. This isn't a new

"Managers had to calm workers and assure them that plans for the company’s next-generation console weren’t affected, said the people, asking not to be identified discussing private matters."

That sounds like sensationalism, to be honest.  It doesn't make any sense.  Why would a partnership to outsource servers have a negative impact on a console that is likely finalized and close to launch?  To the point that anyone would need to be calmed down?  And with everyone knowing how vital Playstation is to Sony?  I don't buy it.

I know It's weird that workers would be like this. I thought Gaikai employees would freak out since they are the main target to streaming? not hardware manufacturers?

Cute and honest Sega Saturn fan, also noone should buy Sega grrrr, Sega for life.

In business, there will always be people on the lower rung who are not privy to decisions like this one. I know I worked at a company and found out that we were sold to another company via a news report instead of any clue or decisions from upper management. This is not uncommon and happens a lot. The lower rung will get their instructions and directions once the partnership is defined. At the end of the day, it really is just business and you learn that your competitors can also be your closes vendors

Bloomberg is the 'Daily Mail' of business journalism news. They are deemed creditable because they are one of the largest business outlets out there but their cited sources (often anonymous due to the nature of what they are discussing) are suspect at best. I am willing to wager that a Bloomberg reporter, seeing this as a Playstation Vs Xbox move, instead of a Sony and Microsoft got a quote of a SIE individual and reported that...I'm sure the same answer would be given on the Xbox side as well
