Prologue saving Sony asks the question did Sony need to be saved in Europe. The answer was an ecstatic no it did not. Europe has been the consoles saving grace all generation long. The console was selling well despite lacking any real gaming merit. So did this game save Sony no it has most likely spiked the sales for a while. The same way any big game release spikes sales. The same way other games are going to spike other console sales throughout the year.
Sony is not in a position where they need to be save. They have enough consoles sold now that they can sustain the platform. However this game hasn't had a remarkable impact upon the consoles position. The situation in the other regions has not changed dramatically. Nintendo is still outselling Sony, and Microsoft is still selling a decent amount of consoles.
I suppose your question is whether the game will deliver better market penetration in the other regions for Sony and speed up Microsoft's decline, but the real question is can Sony get a better market position long term from this title in other regions, and the answer is probably not.
The reality is that the PS3 constitutes 27% of the others market, and in the most recent week they accounted for 31% of the sales in other markets. That is hardly a major change in market position, and one that is likely to be offset by other titles this year. I would suspect that Sony would be hoping for more. So perhaps the 360 price cut has had a substantial effect on the situation.
To put it succinctly I would say that Sony didn't need to be saved especially in this region, but if you were looking for a major market shift that is probably not going to be the case. Prologue may be a short term spike. The 360s price may become more relevant with time, and Nintendo still has some major titles in the short term. That could easily push the pendulum farther away from Sony.
I will say that Sony really did need this game and really does need to do better in Europe. Sony constitutes 17% of the North American market. Sony constitutes 24% of the Japanese market, but with the Wii outselling the PS3 by five to one that percentage is going to shrink over time. They really need to have a more dominant market to work off of. They are very close to irrelevant in two markets they need a market where they are the major factor.
