Forums - General - What do you think of the UK?

It's a can of worms! It used to be a country and is still technically a Duchy (which is just below a Principality) and was never officially made a part of England, although it's treated as such. I have lived in Cornwall for a year and plenty of people here consider it to be a country, including Mistershine who's on these forums. Some get incredibly offended at being called English. The Cornish are a separate Celtic people while the English are predominantly Anglo-Saxon. It's really interesting, I did my dissertation on it. I can suggest a few books if your comment was out of interest rather than just snarking.

Oh, another really bad thing. Scotland is still under occupation.
Don't worry, we'll be getting rid of them soon. Well, they're having a referendum anyway. The opinion polls suggest they may well vote to remain part of the UK and continue leeching off English tax payers.

lol... so cocky. ^^

And hey, you forced them to leech damnit. Just stop pretending you're the British Empire anymore and let them go already.

Some of the bad things...

1 our prime minister wasnt elected

2 we have soaring crime rates

3 soaring food prices

4 soaring house prices, first time buyers are in the shit

5 drugs all over the place

3, 4 and 5 are unfair in my opinion.

3) This is happening all over the world. It's actually quite a bit of a global crisis Rice is one of the hardest hit foods, and rice is what poor people eat to survive in most countries.

4) To my knowledge English house prices have been in a rapid decline the last 5-8 months. Prices are still higher then they were a few years ago. However currently said prices are dropping back down due to the credit problems that have mostly hit the US but also hit europe a bit.

5) That's going to happen. You aren't going to be able to keep things people want away from the people who want them. The west would be better regulating the drug trade rather then trying to stop it and better educating people on just how destructive the stuff is.

Though I imagine england would be worried about the reverse of what they did to China happening.

It's kinda funny though, things are reversed. Instead of the mighty self sufficient Chinese Empire, it's the British, US and other countries that really don't have much they want from third worlders... other then drugs.

Thanks for putting him right, just shows how some people dont understand the problems going on worldwide. Though it's fair to say our media (damn them) like to portray these things as British-only problems.

The falling house prices thing has been everywhere though, and it's good IMO. Just shows ignorance on his part.

Are you currently trying to buy a house? I am, and the prices have risen nearly every WEEK in my area for the last 6 months. So dont call me ignorant you silly, silly little imbecile.

The opinion polls suggest they may well vote to remain part of the UK and continue leeching off English tax payers. (For non-UK people who aren't aware of the situation, English tax is redistributed to Scotland to pay for their free university education, personal care, etc while English, Welsh and Cornish have to pay tuition and care fees!)

I don't know whether I would mind Scotland leaving or not. I realise that they have unfair amounts of money poured into the country (though they still complain about their situation), but if they leave we are effectively no longer are the UK. Why they would want to leave anyway is beyond me, it would hardly improve their lives.

Cool it, you're area is obviously an anomaly as house prices have been falling nationwide. You implied the opposite.

A little harsh don't you think?

I'm sorry for the ignorant comment, I didn't realise you were talking about your area. So are you trying to find a place near University, cos that's probably a bitch.

Anyway, we PS3 fans must stick together ;) *warps back to video games from serious topics*
