I liked him. Worthy of respect to be sure. Cousin to my friend too! Canada seems so small sometimes. I was friends with the brother of a Kids In The Hall writer.

I haven't seen as many movies with him in it as I should have. But I loved Uncle Buck, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, as well as Spaceballs when I was a kid. And Little Shop of Horrors too, though I can't really remember him in that. Great actor for sure, a really comfy comedian. 

Planes, Trains & Automobiles is one of those funny movies where critics and audiences like it just as much as each other but because of the genre it's in (as well as maybe some of it's 80's cheese) it will never be given the acclaim as a masterpiece, which it deserves. It is genuinely one of the best movies I've ever seen. It's comedy is well written and the film has a very nuanced meaning to it, sure the last portion of the film can really only be interpreted one way but once you finish it the first time the entire aura of the movie changes. 

My man! I love Planes, Trains & Automobiles. An all-time great comedy, and Hughes' best, if you ask me. Intelligent, funny, and downright touching—especially that finale.

@OT: John Candy was a brilliant funnyman. It is still sad he passed so young.

You definitely should! I still need to watch more of his filmography, I have seen a lot of the films that he's a supporting character in but mostly as a younger child. It's probably a litlte bit weird to say this but I know him way more for Spaceballs, Uncle Buck and Planes Trains than I do Home Alone or National Lampoon as I didn't watch those two films much as a kid. I only watched Planes Trains like once or twice as a kid too but the fact that it holds up as well as the surprise made it such a memorable experience. 

My bud! Yeah, it truly is great. It helps that you kind of feel like his "character" in Planes and Trains is really just him. Ugh, I should have watched it this Christmas ;-(
