Forums - Gaming Discussion - Bob Iger is Happy With EA's Star Wars Games

They are good games.

We just need more of them.

So many genres to choose from. Come on EA. Let Bioware make a Mass Effect type Star Wars game.

Right now t is not surprising considering the philosophies both companies have. Impose ideas, no matter the cost. But in the end the world is ruled by money so their contract will eventually end and not renewed.

Trusting EA to be the sole publisher of SW games was a pretty boneheaded move, though.

Who would could bid on something as big as Star Wars?  Who else would bid?  I'd rather EA than Activision, to be honest.

Doesn't have to be a single entity.  It used to be that a bunch of different developers and publishers worked with the Star Wars license.  It all went to shit when EA was given a monopoly over it.  Just like their Madden and FIFA games, when they have no competition, they make shitty games and no one can do anything about it.

Sounds more to me like he just doesn't care. That's a difference. A person who doesn't care is more likely an asshole rather than an idiot.

Or a businessman.  EA was the highest bidder for the license.  Disney's cashing the check.  It's a good deal for them.

It's EA's problem if they don't bother to take advantage of the license.

That's what I said. An asshole.

I don't think they would mention it if they were happy. The reality is they saw how well Spidey did, how it was received by fans and critics and the money it bought in and they have seen what EA had achieved so far. It will be interesting to see what happens when the new gen begins and how that might change things.

I would love a star wars action RPG made by Capcom or Platinum. Lighsabers and hack n slash go well.

He's just being polite in respect to their business relationship. It wouldn't look good on Disney themselves if they trashed a partner in the media. I have a hard time believing Disney isn't seeing the differences between how people are perceiving a game like Spider-Man compared to any of EA Star Wars games. Best believe going forward the IP will be licensed one game at a time.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

It's his job to do what's best for his company.

Which has no bearing of how much of an asshole a person is. The best for a company can also be hiking up prices for life saving medication, polluting the environment and exploiting child labor.

They're literally just cashing a check.

And what about the destroyed lives of people who couldn't play a single decent Star Wars game in the past 5 years because of this? You talk as if "cashing a check" can't make someone an asshole.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Before Episode 8 I was interested in any Star Wars game, but there just weren't any to be excited about. Post Episode 8 I can't think of a single concept of a Star Wars game I would buy. MAYBE a remake of KOTOR. I just don't care about the universe anymore.

So they've basically cancelled each other out for me.
