Forums - Nintendo - Don't buy BOOM BLOX! EA removes head-tracking feature in BOOM BLOX!

I WANT TO BUY THIS GAME because of that HEAD TRACKING features, now I want to tell EA that you made a stupid decision, nobody is going to buy it! Are u? definely not me!

Head-tracking feature pulled from Boom Blox

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Head_tracking_feature_pulled_from_Boom_Blox'; At the Nintendo Media Summit, Boom Blox senior producer Amir Rahimi confirmed that the final version of the game will lack the head-tracking mode. We understand that it was always an Easter egg, requiring gamers to set up Wii Remotes as cameras, and hacking together their own IR LED glasses. But you didn't have to go to TED to see the promise, and we're disappointed to see it removed.

EA wouldn't go on-record to say exactly why the mode was cut, only just confirming it again through public-relations channels. An email statement noted, "Head-tracking was something we considered including as an Easter egg in BOOM BLOX however, we did not end up including it in the final version of the game. ..."

Perhaps EA feared that we'd hack together a candelabra helmet as an IR emitter. They should have; we totally would.

NMS08: Head-tracking disappears from EA's Boom Blox

Remember how awesome it was when we found out that BOOM BLOX was going to incorporate Johnny Chung Lee's incredible head-tracking 3D demo? There was dancing in the streets (and an extra helping of crow for the staff here).

Well, put away the maracas and forget the confetti: EA has cut the Easter egg from the title. Guess that means the device we rigged from a beer helmet, swim goggles, and an old bag of Cheetos is now completely useless, and we're denied the chance to try out the most amazing development for the Wii that we've seen -- and in a game that would have been perfect for it, too. What happened? EA is mum on the whys and wherefores, stating only that the Easter egg was never confirmed for inclusion.

Poor PS3 Sales Means Smaller Losses

"Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation," Quotes from Sony’s CFO Nobuyuki Oneda.

Whaat? I hope it's not true, that was the only reason I was looking forward to that game. Is there any other head tracking games announced?

If the head tracking EASTER EGG was the only reason why you would have bought the game, then you probably wouldn't have enjoyed it for more than a couple minutes anyways.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy
In the past we played games. In the future we watch games. - Forest-Spirit
11/03/09 Desposit: Mod Bribery (RolStoppable)  vg$ 500.00
06/03/09 Purchase: Moderator Privilege  vg$ -50,000.00

The question you should be asking is WHY they removed it.

@ Fastrabbit09

There are loads of PC games that have implemented head-tracking with TrackIR. None of them have gameplay built around the head-tracking though.

Lots of easter eggs take a long time to reach...  sometimes half the fun is getting there.....

I am hoping it will still be hidden somewhere in the game...

Anyways...   if this it true went from about a 80-95% likely to a 10-40% likely (dependant on reviews) to purchase...

Whats with the head tracking anyways? I've seen it already in youtube except for that the objects will be 3-d there's no way it will enhance the gameplay :/ Unless you want to be dizzy induced

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

It's just cool. Seeing it on youtube isn't the same as doing it yourself when you move your head....

I don't even think the original easter egg had it in gameplay.  Looked like you could freeze time in the middle of an explosion and look around using it.

Anyways, the cool factor will generally only work for the *first* game to be release with it...

well, isn't it your fault to expect EA to be innovative in the first place? ;)

Who cares? As another poster said, it was just going to be a bloody Easter egg. Not buying Boom Blox because EA eliminated head tracking would be like not buying Diablo II because Blizzard eliminated the secret cow level.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."
