Forums - Sony - Does the PS3 use much more power than the XBox 360 and the Nintendo Wii?

Well, the controllers are battery operated.

It's not just because it uses simpler chips, also because Nintendo focused on low power consumption when designing the console.

I'm not so sure of that. The Wii's standby mode is the most idiotic, unnecessarily inefficient process they could have come up with. Rather than have it come online once every hour or so to check for updates, the bloody thing runs all the time and gives off the heat to prove it. As you can see from the above link, the Wii uses nearly as much power when it's "off" as it does when it's on! That adds up.

Unless of course you disable WiiConnect24, as I did. But I shouldn't have to. They should revamp the way standby mode works, or at the very least disable it by default.

im guessing ps3.

QUESTION:

If you turn WiiConnect24 off, how do you get messages from Nintendo/friends/etc?

Does it just auto-check when you turn in on?

I always leave all my electronics disconnected at night, including my modem.

I wonder if the Wii uses more electricity with games like Brawl that are much more stressing to the disc drive and the RAM.

I don't know about the PS3 or 360 (though I'm fairly certain I heard PS3 uses more), but Wii won some type of greenhouse gas emission award, so it can't be using too much power.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?
