Actually it's the fans of the game that have kept it going. Royal Edition was originally meant to be the end but people kept hounding them for more.

Thats even worse, for me anyways.Just means that Square will be even more incentivize to continue in this direction.

Its not good for me because I dont like this direction, so this is a personal take.You can say that I am selfish, and you wouldnt be wrong XD

If thas what you mean by direction I don't think you have anything to worry about.
If there is one thing we can say about the FF series its that its one of those series that continues and always reinvents itself. No matter how successful its previous installment was.

But I dont think that Square would see turn based combat as an reinvention or "moving foward".Dont have much faith in them regarding FF, given that they havent done a great FF since FF XII(excluding XIV of course, since that game is an MMO)
