I do understand how good those games are in their genre, and that if they fit your taste, they are wonderful games

but I do see what a wonderful game it is eventhough not my taste..

this question can be asked with so many games, mario and sonic , anyone. the answer is, they have people that enjoy playing them. who cares if you dont understand.

Personally, I have never liked Gran Turismo (or any simulation racing game) but from my (outsider) view it seems like Gran Turismo appeals to the obsessive nature of a lot of gamers in the same way that Pokemon or World of Warcraft do.

Xponent, there is penaltys. crash damage would be cool, but who likes doing 50 laps and then just taping another car and you have to restart the race because your car blew up. also the crash damage in other racers is usually so unrealistic anyways. stuff does break on cars its not just the body that cracks up. anyone else see it like this?

Well I'm not sure, but it seems that when the first Grand Turismo came out the market was dominated by arcade racers from Sega (Daytona, Sega Rally) and Namco (WipeOut, Wave Racer). Grand Turismo was a whole new breed of racer. Then of course the competition tried to emulate GT's success (Sega GT, Ferrari F355 Challenge, Forza) which all hyped up Grand Turismo.

Gran Turismo is amazing; for me its not so much the racing but owning the cars, tuning them...its just one of those games where I can just look on my garage and be amazed, and show off to other people how insanely dull my life is that I spent 48 hours straight to get X car...its awesome :D
