Well seeing Wii sells more each week than the PS3 and that GT:p isn't even the full game it's not surprising.

Who excluded Japan? it counts 65-75K (preview) and then I believe Wii > Ps3 first week in areas it came out.

the thread should of been locked from the start, you can't make a thread then post noting inside of it, this is against the rules which another poster pointed out.

We can't really compare, cause the PS3 sucks in Japan, and is only ok in the US (where the game is not out yet), but in others, the PS3 with GT 5 Prologue wins

Also, what sales is this comparing, others + Japan, or just Japan (or others)?

I get what some people are saying here about GT5 not selling better than MKWii. They are just basically saying "hey, Sony is doing us in the butt cuz we had to pay for a demo first and next we'll pay for the full blown game. Yay thanks Sony! That's why we love you so much!"

No, Mario Kart isn't a lot bigger in Japan. DS has about equal base in all areas, and MKDS has sold least LTD in Japan. The opening was, however bigger than in the others by 10% and 50%. That is most possibly because it launched much closer to christmas there, and therefore had an extra boost. There is no reason to believe that MKDS was bigger in Japan than in America/Europe.

As for the earlier games, we have a lack of data, but Japan was by far the smallest for MK:DD

Area/GC sales /MK:DD LTD sales /AR

Japan/ 4M/ 800K / 1:5
America / 12.7M / 4.2M / 1:4
Others / 4.7M / 1.9M / 1:2,5

This is unfair to America, as bigger markets tend to have lower AR, but it still shows us that MK:DD was by far smallest in Japan, and DS was pretty overall.

We now have "confirmed" that GT5 will CRUSH Halo 3's opening week, and actually come close to doubling it, by making about 7.5M.


You noticed the part where it said "America?" Well, when you add both the Japanese AND American launch numbers, you're somewhere in the range of 1.5 million. Not counting European numbers, where it would find itself with by far the strongest launch.

And I don't know, maybe you missed "one of the strongest" and "where it's one of Nintendo's strongest franchises." I wasn't comparing Mario Kart sales in Japan to its sales in the rest of the world, I was comparing Mario Kart sales to other Nintendo IPs in Japan.

On the N64, a Mario Kart is the highest selling title. Gamecube? 4th highest (Mario Party sales started going down after the 4th game, and Wind Waker was given amazing scores, I think even a 40/40 by Famitsu). As for Smash, well, it was just smash.

Like I said before, Mario Kart is one of Nintendo's premiere IPs in Japan even if it gets outsold by other titles, but since that's not even what you were arguing against then this is pointless.

Wait, it's okay to call GT5P a "demo" now? Weren't people complaining about that before?

It's amazing what people will let slide so long as they can damage control the situation. Why Mario Kart needs to be damage controlled is beyond me, it's pretty futile.
