I'm a huge fan of Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin, and I cannot wait for Order of Ecclesia. Add one to the hype list. ^___^

It's a little early to be screaming "rehash." I atleast want to see some screenshots before the hate bandwagon fills to the brim.

I still haven't finished PoR...

| Faxanadu said: @zen: I actually really adored the series at some point in time. I even tried to play through Castlevania 64. However, I got the first GBA castlevania and finished it, then got the double pack of the other two on GBA just before getting a DS. I finished them both. Then one of the first DS games was the first Castlevania DS. And you know what? I stopped after about 8 hours of playing. Cause I got bored. I mean, how often within 4 months can you start at the castle bridge, then go through the caves to get to the secret gardens and the hall and the clock tower to eventually get an items so you can jump high/ walk under water/ walk on water etc. pp.. I really just stopped caring. cause i have been there and done that. nothing new. I really used to like Castlevania. At one point it was the highest form of innovation (on SNES, PS1). Since then, its Symphony of the night all over again... |
First, I don't agree with these sort of "rehash" arguments. The fact of the matter is, some games are worth playing over and over again with small (or sometimes large) changes to the formula. You just have to be a fan of those games enough to continue liking them. You don't really have to buy everyone, or anything, just like you don't have to buy every Madden. But at least there are significant differences from one CV to another in more than a graphics/roster sort of way. Maybe for you one CV game every three to four years is enough, but to others it's possible to play a new one every year and still be thrilled when a new one is announced. My roommate has played every single CV game (except the non-NES versions of "Castlevania," I think) and beaten all of them except PoR and perhaps the PSP remake (though he soundly beat the original). He will, when he has more time, play the next CV game as well.
On top of that, the third GBA CV was pretty weak, and DoS wasn't especially stellar. I mean, if I played those two back-to-back in short succession it'd leave a bad taste in my mouth, too. You probably just need a break, and should return to the series some time down the line when another top-notch game comes out for the series. Which is pretty frequent, really. It's a series with more highs than lows.

This reminds me I still hadn't finished PoR.
Now, where did I put my game card...
