I mean, if someone buys a game based off of future updates of what might happen, then they seriously need their head checked.

No one knows what any DLC is, or what any Episodic content is. And if I had a PS3, I would buy it on that platform just to spite Microsoft for keeping this a secret for no ungodly reason other than hype-building.

Didn't Sony believe this kind of mentality would be used on the first 5 million of their consoles sold?

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO David Reeves: "Without being too arrogant about it, I don't think we worry too much about building up the hype in the first six months, but where the rubber hits the road is going to be when all those hardcore gamers have bought PS3", said Reeves. "They have also bought Xbox 360 and they have probably bought Nintendo Wii as well."

However, Reeves maintained that shifting PS3s in the early days won't be a problem, such is the strength of the PlayStation brand: "We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even it didn't have games."

OT: Since the release of GTA III, when has R* made a clunker with GTA? It hasn't happened. I'd put my good money on playing the version that has been touted, on display numerous times than put my money on the version that's been on double-secret probation since inception. Take your chances if you want, but wisdom tells me if the PS3 is the superior version, then why has R* shown it with less than 2 weeks to go?!

@ DJ Meister J - if you prefer the PS3 version of everything, why do you still have your 360? Why not sell it on eBay or craigslist, hustle a wii bit and buy a PS3? Seriously - you make me want to ship my PS3 because I think you'd get much more use out of that me right now.

AFAIK, the DLC is exclusive to 360, but R* are allowed to make different multi plat/PS3 DLC at a later date.

What's your source on that? There has been no confirmation on that point at all to my knowledge.

In the EGM (april 08) interview Sam Houser said R* were getting into episodic content and may bring some to the PS3.

I have the magazine sitting here and he doesn't say anything about bringing it to the PS3.  So you may have gotten that from another interview that Sam Houser did.  In fact here's the only thing Sam Houser said about the episodic content in the EGM April magazine interview:

(from page 55)

EGM: We actually liked the two-player modes in San Andreas....

SH: If you enjoyed that, then I think you're going to be a happy man.  For me though, the combination of what we're doing with multiplayer and what we're doing with the [downloadable XB360] episodes is the start of us putting our toes in this water and seeing how our audience...adapts to online.  Is episodic content the way forward for them?  These are things we're going to find out.  I'm very excited about the episodes.  I think they're going to work beautifully well, particularly if you played the single-player experience---how they connect.  Again, without giving too much away.  We're absolutely going to head down that path.  We're already kind of on it....

All the extra content could easily be put on a PS3 Blu-Ray disc that has up to 8 layers, each layer holds 25Gb. So potentially 200GB on one PS3 Blu-ray game disc.
360 though using DVD's is limited to 9GB's per game disc.

I remember reading that as well.

They haven't said that they weren't, but they are able to make other Downloadable Content for the PS3. I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere.

They said they were able to make downloadble content for the PS3 outside of the exlclusive 360 stuff.

They however never stated that they could make exclusive downloadble content for PS3.

In my mind they were saying that after Microsoft's deal ran out the other content would be multi-platform... and that the 360 content was definitly exclusive and not timed exclusive like some people were postulating.

You figured that'd be in any deal Microsoft would of signed with them on this.

How long is Microsoft's deal with Rockstar over exclusive downloadable content will last? Say 6 months?

It's not any period of time. It's just that Rockstar has to first deliver on two peices of exclusive episodic content before they can make any other online add ons.  Most likely it was content that was agreed opon before the deal was signed.

Source, please? Even a link to read this quote for myself. Mucho gracias.

OT: The PS3 is getting DLCs. They are getting extra outfits, guns and the like. The PS3 isn't getting episodic content, though. Only way to play the extras is to get a 360, plain and simple.

I don't know.

If Episodic content is really big on the 360 I see them making one or two more multiplatform episodic contents.  2K could really use the money to keep them afloat.

Don't see why people are complaining about the price vs gameplay.

You paid full price for the 6 hours worth of heavenly sword, 6 hours worth of single player frontlines, 12 hours of assassin's creed (if you reallllllly stretched it) and the list goes on.

My only issue with GT5:P and why I wouldn't pay $50 (which is how much most shops sell it for here in Aus) is that it's a shadow to a future game, GTA4 additional content isn't part of something that you'll see later on, so comparing it to that is baseless (By the way, GT5 is a "sports" game which means there is technically infinite play value, another reason comparison is pointless).

Dude. Heavenly sword is something entirely different. It's like a Really long interactive movie.

Furthermore it's a whole game. This is just a bunch of "go from A to B" missions.

Check out my game about moles ^

I guess you ned your head checked also.

I don't prefer the PS3 version of everything.  If I had both, I would have bought DMC4 and RSV2 both on the 360, DMC because of the install times, and RSV2 because of problems it has on PS3.

I think the problem is that you have me pegged as a PS3 fanboy, which I'm not.  I'm a realist.  Sony does a lot of stuff wrong.  Launching at an insane price point, Ken Kutaragi's crazy quotes about getting two jobs to buy a PS3, and things like that.  They've messed so much stuff up, which is why I bought a 360.  My main goal is to play GAMES.  Not to support a console, or a console manufacturer.  I love my XBOX 360, and yes, I do talk bad about Microsoft because I much didn't like sending my 360 away 3 times due to RRoD.  That meant that I couldn't play games for 3 months.  I like playing games, and when I can't, I get mad.  I want my XBOX 360 as well, for Fable 2, Gears 2, and Ninja Gaiden.  And I continually love Halo 3, and many other 360 games that you can see on my profile.  If you want to ship me your PS3, more power to you, and I'd use it tons.

On topic:

Yes, the first 5 million or so people who bought PS3 do need their head checked.  As you can see, I still haven't bought mine, I'm waiting for my killer-app, MGS4.  I'll buy a couple of old games when I get my PS3, but, like I said, I'm a game player first, and a console supporter second.  That's why I went against my console of choice to buy a 360.

I do think the 360 is the 'complete' version.  But since both titles play the same, and there's not a difference in technical aspects across consoles, one would think that MS would push their 'complete' version of the game by telling us what the hell the exclusive episodic content is.

DLC is usually not that great anyway. Games should be complete and not have extra content being offered at a later date.
