Darc Requiem said: The 360 catches the most flack on the forum but you wouldn't be able to tell by the constant and endless whining from owners of a certain Sony console. I call it Sony Selective Memory Syndrome or SSMS. Signs of SSMS are: 1. Complaining about paid exclusivity To be fair, Sony didn't have to moneyhat 3rd parties during the PS1 era because both Sega and Nintendo screwed 3rd parties (Nintendo by leveraging their market position to charge extortionate fees and Sega by dropping support of the Saturn). Sony also didn't have to moneyhat during the PS2 era either because their market position was so strong. Prior to this generation, Sony had no reason to pay for exclusivity. Sony did money hat during the PS1 and PS2. They didn't have a choice. They didn't have the 1st Party development houses that Nintendo and Sega had. Spyro and Crash Bandicoot were always the property of Universal but Sony paid to have them exclusive to their platforms. They paid Eidos not to release Tomb Raider 2 on Saturn despite it already being completed for example. They paid to keep GTA exclusive to PS2. Those are just few of the numerous examples of Sony paying for excluvsivity. 2. Complaining about the competition stealing 3rd party franchises from Sony Life's a bitch. 3. Calling the 360 a FPS console when the PS3 has next to no JRPGs What would a lack of JRPGs on PS3 have to do with the 360 being the FPSbox? And how do the sales of JRPGs on 360 compare to Halo3 or CoD4? Sales don't have anything to do with how diverse a software library is. Having various titles in a multitude of genres does however. The PS3 has a less diverse lineup and its lineup is more FPS heavy than the 360s. So for Sony fans to call the 360 a FPS machine is flat out hypocrisy. 4. Citing hardware failure as reason for supporting Sony inspite of the DRE and overheating issues of PS1, DRE of PS2, dead pixel and square button failures of PSP The failure rate on the PS1, PS2 and PSP were all <5%. By conservative estimate 360 failures affect >16% of owners (the figure doesn't take into account how many times each of these owners has been affected). The situation is not even remotely comparable. Okay now you are just spouting bullshit. There is no nicer way to say it. The PS1 has numerous overheating and DRE issues. The system had several design flaws. It had a lack of ventilation and which compounded with its laser lens design flaws caused DRE. I mean before the PSOne redesign the PS1 was rife with problems. Sony continually denied these issues which is their usual modus operandi but yet continually made design changes to the laser and increased the ventilation on the PS1 in spite of their being "nothing wrong with the design." The DRE issues were so bad on the PS2, a class action suit was filed and despite once again claiming there was no problem. Sony settled out of court. I mean the official Sony had so many posts about DRE, for you even claim that failure on it was less than 5% is delusional. If it were less than 5% they would have not settle out of court because the class action suit would have had no merit. It would have put the PS2 in the normal failure range for electronics. We all know that was not the case. As for the PSP, do you really want me to dig up the quote about along withe picture of the flawed PSP motherboard that Sony claimed was intentional? 5. Citing a future release a reason the PS3 will return domination then saying that very game is unimportant when domination doesn't occur I'll let you know as soon as they release one of their big franchises. So far GT5P is the only thing that comes close. Thank you proving my point. So Devil May Cry 4, Ratchet & Clank, Hot Shots Golf, and the various other franchises that sold so well on PS2 are no longer a big franchises because they didn't make the PS3 dominate. 6. Deriding the competion for being unoriginal and copying while forgetting that is what Sony has down since they entered the industry Nintendo fans often cite motion controls, head-tracking and a certain fitness game as examples of how innovative Nintendo is, conveniently ignoring the fact SCEE incorporated all of these things into the last generation with the Eyetoy. Sony's contributions to gaming are myriad and your denials won't change that. Sony made so many contribution you only named the Eye Toy. Nintendo didn't create a lot the things they used in their consoles, they were the first to implement. Innovation is not only creation but implementing existing technology into a new field. Sony has a habit of mocking their competition and then implementing their ideas later on down the line. That something you can try to deny but its fact. Whether it be the analog stick and rumble features that the N64 brought to the table, the online gaming that they mocked the Sega Dreamcast for before adding a network adapter to PS2. The questioning of a hard drive for the X-box before making one for the PS2 or most recently the labelling motion controls as a gimmick before ditching the boomerang for the SixAxis. Sony wouldn't catch the flack they do if they wouldn't mock their competitors before co-opting their ideas. |
