Forums - Sony - Spiderman PS4 Review Thread - Currently 87 Metacritic (97 Reviews)

What will be the final Metacritic score Average?

>94 14 9.66%

90-94 48 33.10%

85-89 68 46.90%

80-84 13 8.97%

75-79 0 0%

70-74 2 1.38%

<70 0 0%

Total:145

An 87 is a great score. That's a great foundation to start off for a series. Once Insomniac irons out the kinks with mission design, the sequel could potentially be in the 90s. It'll probably outsell Arkham Knight on the PS4 and might get over 8 million lifetime like Horizon. Not a bad start for a new franchise.

I was a bit worried this game would be too cinematic but it looks really fun and open. Only 'disappointment' for me is that they don't even offer a 60fps option on the Pro, even for a game as fast and action packed as this.
Though I just started Dragon Quest XI, reading/watching reviews pushed me to order the game.

Similar words but the scores is all over the place. This is bullshit.

"Marvel’s Spider-Man is the best game you will play this year" - 100
DarkStation

"This feels like the most authentic Spider-Man game" - 90
The Daily Dot

"best Spider-Man game to date" - 80
We Got This Covered

"The best Spider-Man game ever made" - 70
Metro GameCentral

"This game shows tremendous love for all things Spider-Man" - 60
Guardian

Seems ridiculous that they can think the best game ever made deserves a 70 unless they think everything else is trash.. and that all the love for spider deserves a 60 do they hate it?

Maybe they're DC fans, and hate Marvel lol.

*might* get 8 million? It will 100% pass the 8 million mark, no questions asked. It will pass the 10 million mark certainly too. Ending up at around 13-15 million lifetime sales.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

The thing I like about Insomniac is the nintendo-like mentality of "gameplay first", unlike Naughty Dog, which places cinematics and story first.

It's the reason why Insomniac is my favourite Sony studio out of the bunch.

This thread is such a good watch.

Can't wait for the next polemic where people will again debate on the "goodness" of a game rated in the high 70's/low 80's on Metacritic.

Didn't see any diatribe plus the game wasn't rated in the high 70's/ low 80's .

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Different people have different opinions and expectations. I wouldn't call it bullshit since none of us have played the game?

Pocky Lover Boy!

So i was right for the moment ;p
Still don't get it why reviewers are trying to be original and can't admit this is the best Spider-Man game ever made and toe to toe with Batman arkham series from Rocksteady.

When i remember how those magazines overhyped first Arkham games with ridiculous scores i don't understand it. Same as R* games specially GTA IV.

Well Insomniac as always delivered game with fun and gameplay on the first place. Maybe one day reviewers will score they games as good as from R and ND.

Hope this game still sale awesome and we will get another Spider-Man or even brand new hero game in future.

That's a pretty bold estimate. What makes you so sure?

Then give it a 4 star if it really gives that much love.

Not to take any sides, but 3 out of 5 in the  "good" in the 5 stars system, whereas when it's translated into percentage it's 60%, which is "mediocre to terrible". If this same reviewer used the percentage system, I bet he would score above 70 at least, probably in the 75-80 range.

Therfore, I don't think metacritic should accept scores that are given on a 10 point scale or lower. For example, Gamespot uses the 10 point scale (1,2,3,4, to 10,....no decimals), and if some thinks the game is deserving of, lets say, 8.5, the reviewer is forced to round to to an 8 or round up 9, higher or lower than what the reviewer actually thinks of the game.

IMO metacritic should take any reviews under the 20-point scale (1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, to 10, counting by 0.5), and encourage review sites to use the 100 point scale (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, like IGN).

even 70% score doesn't align with what they said about the game, that is the problem.

It is the same gripe I have with reviewers who gave 100 to Zelda while complaining about plenty of glaring issues (on their view). Their score seemed inflated, as these seem deflated.

And discussing about MC is a constant on this type of thread but get us nowhere. That is a reason I preffer to focus on a few reviewers that would have evaluated other games I liked with a similar score I would give, or if there are more specialized reviewers I would give them more voice.

Would make sense... you love Marvel too much, get this 6.

Insomniac isn't sony, even if RC is a Sony IP. Sony also have some studios that aren't focused on cinematics but we know that it is their main focus "SP cinematic games". I do preffer ND and SSM, but also have a good evaluation of Insomniacs.

Owww if you look close enough you will see an attempt or two... And exclusives on the 75-85 band will certainly have some muddy sling.

When they praise the game this much and the score doesn't reflect it, it is certainly strange.
