MGS4 is the greatest game ever

After the PS3 gets those games, it will continue to sell outstanding numbers because it'll have most of the holes in it's weak genre's filled with amazing "system sellers". Sony consoles always carry momentum, and I have a feeling this will be no different, all those games will sell, they will all show how well those games give the Sony platform legs, and more people will want in :P

People are always hyping up those games. But there is one thing undiscussed. What happens to the PS3 AFTER those games are released? Do devs jump ship to the Wii as they seem to be doing right now? Do they take a wait-and-see approach to see how those games sell to decide if more AAA games should be put on the PS3? What? Those games can't last and be hyped forever. These are the PS3's biggest games, but what happens after?

Any thoughts? I think we might have a good discussion since we haven't discussed this before.

Sony will pack everything up, shake hands with their customers and clients, pass some pleasantries, smile for the farewell photo with all of their employees and lock the door and will go back to their homes to eat pop corns and watch movies and soccer... :)

@Mike B Dragon Quest IX will be released on the DS, unfortunate, in case you've forgotten and don't expect for another 3 years at least another DQ release.

There could be a 1080p HD remake like WipeOutHD or Tekken: Darc Resurrection, they remade many of their games and once Final Fatasy XIII (and versus) are released at least from a technology perspective the game engine would already be there. Of course it's just speculation (just like the original post was asking for), but note Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest both saw PS2 releases within the first year of the PS2's global launch.

@ Soriku

Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest both were already under development for the PS2 before the console launched. They have been important factors why the PS2 took off so fast. Similarly Final Fantasy (and possibly Dragon Quest) will likely have a similar effect on PS3 sales.

the same thing we do every night pinky complain why this game wasn't as great as it was and look forward to the 2nd one or the new one made by the team etc. etc....also take of the world.

Fixed, great post by the way Raziel Dune.

DQ is never coming to the PS3. DQ goes to the system with the most Japan sales. Currently that's the DS. By the time DQ X comes out, the DS will be dead (probably) and the Wii will be the system with the most Japan sales so DQ X will (likely) come to the Wii. And just for the kicks, neither is KH or Suikoden (for who said that).

Plus why are you guys saying FF XIV? Isn't FF XIII supposed to last 10 years? And FF XIII comes out like next year. The next FF would come out like 4 years later and the new systems will likely be out.

Probably because most people don't believe it. Square Enix lives and dies by Final Fantasy and frankly I'm not buying the ten year lifespan of the FFXIII. It is even less believable than the ten year life span of the PS3.

@MikeB

WHY would they make a 1080p remake? There is no point when the DS is enough. Plus SE never has done something like that before. Don't expect a PS3 DQ IX remake. Plus isn't DQ IX supposed to make use of the DS's unique features? They can't remake the game with 2 analog sticks and buttons. They need a touch screen, which no system besides the DS has.

I don't even know where you got the idea of a 1080p remake (or a remake on ANY current gen systems for the matter).

I was thinking more from a story line perspective, I imagine gameplay and graphics should be different, PS3 owners would probably expect something visually more impressive and demanding. They remade some of their older games for the DS, the developer behind the next Dragon Quest for the DS is currently working on the White Knight Story for the PS3. So they will posses good PS3 development knowledge as well.

The next Dragon Quest game will debut on a handheld, so that's a first. You cannot for example say Dragon Quest games will always launch first on a home console anymore. If they really only make games for the best selling game system they would have made a Dragon Quest game for the original Gameboy and instead of releasing the first two Dragon Warrior games on the MSX they would have picked the Commodore 64 as their platform.

Actually, I'm pretty sure we might have discussed this before....or was it about the Wii's big guns? Well anyway, after the HUGE hype machine broke down for Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, etc., what did the gamers do? Look for the next games of course.

After hyping MGS4, GT5, Killzone 2 and all the other games that are due for 2008, where some of them deserved the hype while others become lackluster, its time for 2009's lineup.

Why not just enjoy the games that are coming up, and just feel excited about the games that are coming within a couple of weeks from now, instead of hyping up games that are months, or years away from releasing?

Even though Ratchet, Lair, HS, etc. were hyped up (and Lair and HS did bad) those weren't the biggest games PS3 had to offer. FF, MGS, GT, etc. are the biggest ones. Which happens after the biggest ones are released I'm talking about.

Oh no you didn't. Heavenly Sword has sold 960k and is still selling! It will pass a million at the end of May.

On Topic: This thread is dumb. More games will be annouced and people will get excited for these new games.

 So very true.

After GTA4 there will be another GTA
After GT5 there will be GT6
After FF13 there will be Versus and the next FF.

Op didnt really put much thought in to this thread.

@ Soriku

They remade the DQs for DS...gens later, not in the same gen.

I just wanted to point out they have build up a RPG fanbase on the handheld and gained knowledge on how to implement this on the DS.

After the two Final Fantasy games, The Last Remnant and the White Knight Story are released for the PS3 there will be a good RPG fanbase for this platform as well and they have the game engine(s) ready for usage in more games, thus I think a Dragon Quest in one for another form will be announced in the future for the PS3 and the same goes for Star Ocean.
