Not to throw shade at Xbox but honestly their output this generation has been poor in terms of exclusives. Its kind of telling when your top games are a metroidvania indie like game like Ori and Forza's. The rest of their new IP's can go from good to pretty bad.
And some people think that PS is so popular due to mind-share or Sony land territories like the EU but honestly, its all about the games. Always has been.
Yeah, I wasn't TRYING to throw shade at anyone, I was just collecting data to see just how many PS4 'exclusives' there really were. The number didn't surprise me, but a 4:1 ratio between the HD giants (Nintendo is doing its own thing and is only halfway through its generation, so I think it's fair to give them time) is hilarious. and when 13/24 of your exclusives are from the 'holy trinity' of Halo, Gears, and Forza...well, there's a VERY good reason that narrative exists. it's kind of a shame, too, becaue like, Sony managed to kickstart new franchises and new IP this generation while also reinventing old ones or rebooting them and continuing old games.
Mostly I'm surprised at how many games are on PS4 that I'd never heard of. Like what the heck is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim? Whatever it is, it's a PS4 exclusive that got pretty great reviews (I think 86) and a lot of them, too. It wasn't some cheap little indie game, it's a full blown anime game and I'd never even heard of it before doing all this. So yeah, Sony wins because Diversity and quality. Nintendo wins because of quality and portability/gimmicks. all in all, I am confident in saying that anyone with a PS4/5 and a Switch will enjoy like 99% of the best that gaming has to offer.
I do worry that stuff like Doom, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Wolfenstein, and Dishonoured are gonna be lost to the X-abyss (Seriously, after this generation Xbox is going to have to do more than buy Bethesda to get me back), but I have a PC. I'll just play Elder Scrolls VI on PC on its lowest settings.
