Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Nation | an HBO original

It's kinda funny that for all that hype around the "Sony's only after cinematic blockbusters!" report the next PS5 exclusive... doesn't share those sensibilities. I'm staying as removed as possible from coverage, but even the game's PR & such basically say "we're making an TPS roguelike with old-school difficulty first and foremost." Not exactly a Days Gone/Aliens crossover.

From what i've seen and heard of Returnal it's Housmarques gaming DNA transferred too TPS so I expect to hear words like refreshing - love/hate - difficulty - bullet hell and particle effects used a lot .

FYI: Several prominent online outlets are selling It Takes Two for $30 atm. I can't recommend it enough.

It deserves to be crowned the latest poster child for co-op and to have all the sales befitting of that status.

I never understood the appeal of Pokemon Snap, but great that you are enjoying it.

Hell, I don't understand the appeal of it fully, but I had nostalgia for the original and it's really nice to enjoy new, uncommon kinds of games. If nothing else, it's nice to play a game where you're not killing things or fighting or whatever. It's a game of mostly-passive observation and nature watching in the form of a Pokemon game. seriously, it's just so unlike anything else on the market and it's fun to explore and take pictures.

Sure it is cool to take it easy and enjoy something completely different than the regular games you were playing =]

I liken it to challenging your inner nature photographer.  There's something cathartic about nailing The Perfect Shot by either having quick reflexes to spot a hidden Pokemon or being patient enough to wait for the right action pose.

A lot of us are amateur photographers =] so yes there is this benefit.

This PS5 exclusive game plays really really good , I'm waiting for it, hope it Metacritics high . But the gameplay is super devil may cry formula and is like final fantasy ,It's already in high 70's I'll wait for it's story to bump up a notch or 10 points more? hope its good, but man that gameplay is amazing.

I'm kinda excited by this game as well, hope they have what it takes to make the final stretch and deliver the product all nailed out.

Although Returnal had a great review and their running history is quite solid I wouldn't chose housemarque over bluepoint even if cheaper (Sony could possibly buy both for a portion of that 187M), they still have to many great franchises that need a revival and a bluepoint remake would be ideal (yes they don't need to buy to do it, while new IPs it is better to buy the dev to ensure the sequel is of same quality), but that is me.

Here's  my 2 cents worth, whether by happenstance or design Returnal may well turn out to be looked at as Housemarques First Party audition' the reason behind my thinking is Returnal shows off their potential worth and how well they adapted to the growth required to make that step up much more than smaller scale games like resogun - nex machina etc even though they were great, still there are caveats like how much Housemarque values its independence and while we may see it as a good acquisition Sony may well feel the present partnership model is working well and favour a continuation of the status quo over outright ownership at least for now.

On to Bluepoint  I'm not sure whether the Souls remake while continuing to further showcase their technical capability, pushes their portfolio forward in terms of  showing they having the DNA to deliver a strong original product  and that seems to be what Sony values , but they certainly tick all the other boxes and even if bought as remake specialists i'm sure like Bend with Days Gone and others they would be given a chance.

Can't disagree of your two points as they are very factual. But I would say Sony have plenty of studios that can put great new IPs and sequels and would be bad to put them to make remakes or even remasters (if not by small team to just update from PS4 to PS5 on like texture quality, fps, and similar patches). For me there is space for a great remake studio to bring back some games that are among the most requested ones on their surveys and sure if that sells well Sony can opt to give it to original dev to make sequel or even give BP a shoot of making an original game (sure can't miss the studio also working their remakes).

@Bristow9091

Kinda expected. £70 for a video game, outside launch is too much of an ask for us Brits. Shame because it looks like such a great game that going to be hampered by questionable price/s.

For those of you across the pond thats close to $100 US. Hard sell for a brand new IP and niche game at that. Jim Ryan and the board at Sony needs to rethink the global pricing tbh. $70 =/= £70. He's British himself, why didn't he see thing coming. Ratchet and Clank will be the test and if that under performs well.. yeah. Also doesn't help that games like Resident Evil are releasing in the same time frame which can be picked up for £50ish quid lol.

On Amazon.fr we have the game at 62,99€. It's sold out right now.

Yeah, not gonna' lie but I expected something like this myself... the price hike for games here is just ridiculous... I wouldn't mind them going up £10 as they went up $10... but we're talking a £20-30 jump, which is somewhere around the $27-42 mark for our US friends. It's really not a good look for Sony if they want to continue momentum of game sales into the next gen. At least most third party games are still selling for the standard prices lol.

I think it's not a problem Worldwide but it's way too expensive in UK I agree.

I just really don't like or get Sony's pricing this gen for us and Europe. We got the short end of the stick and then some. I mean they could probably get away with it on big games like GoW. The rest.. nah. Kinda find it perplexing that a third party game is a relative 'cheap' in comparison (£50 for new game isn't cheap by any stretch) but its only because of how stupid Sony prices are for UK. Really sucks for Housemarque tbh if the game sells badly here.

Jim Ryan, President & CEO
At PlayStation, we’re constantly looking for new ways to enable players around the world to connect with one another, form new friendships and communities, and share fun experiences and lasting memories. It’s in this spirit that we’re excited to announce a new partnership with Discord, the communication service popularized by gamers and used by more than 140 million people every month around the world.

Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.

To bring these experiences to life for our players, Sony Interactive Entertainment has made a minority investment as part of Discord’s Series H round. From our very first conversation with co-founders Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, I was inspired by their lifelong love for gaming and our teams’ shared passion to help bring friends and communities together in new ways. Empowering players to create communities and enjoy shared gaming experiences is at the heart of what we do, so we are beyond excited to start this journey with one of the world’s most popular communication services.

It’s always a privilege to work with great partners to bring fresh experiences to our fans, and we’ll have more to share in the coming months. Stay tuned to our channels and @Discord for all the latest updates.

It went from MS buying it out, to partnering with Sony PlayStation.. can't make this stuff up Saved, I guess. Discord integration for PS is darn cool thought.

Yep quite funny to go from rumors (or real negotiations, dunno) with MS for a total buyout to partnership with Sony and integration in the OS.
