Forums - PC - Monthly Steam hardware survey analysis

Once again, thanks Conina.

While Nvidia's dominance won't end anytime soon, or ever, maybe one day Valve will finally fix its survey and show the real AMD (and Intel) numbers. Like I know the 9070 GRE for asia may be kind of popular over there, but seeing it with a 0.03% while the 9070XT is still at 0.00% is ridiculous.

Steam data is currently broken:

Well, the hardware survey being broken is something that seems to happen every couple of months so, yeah, disappointing but not really surprising.

Looks like they fixed it:

All in all rather big wins for AMD, both on the CPU and the GPU fronts.

Welp. I opened Steam today to find a survey. So, next month, be ready to see one less 1070/Pascal GPU and one more AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics in the chart.

Looks like Korean cybercafés are being overcounted again, as Korean as a language almost doubled on Steam. Chinese also made a big push, though not quite as big as the Korean one.

Despite all this, GPU manufacturers are almost unchanged from the previous month, with AMD and NVidia minimally down (0.1 percentage points) and Intel minimally up (also just 0.1 percentage point, so some rounding has been applied). Intel also wind in the CPU market, being able to push AMD back a bit.

Speaking of CPUs, anyone has any idea what's happening with Apple CPUs?

Biggest winners on the GPU side are the 5060, 4060 and 5070, with the 5060Ti and 5070Ti a bit behind. NVidia Graphics device (any idea what that is supposed to be?), the 5080 and the 7800XT are behind those and the last ones with double-digit growth. In the latter case, this also marks the first AMD GPU (barring those AMD Radeon Graphics which we don't know exactly what those are) with over 1% market share on Steam since the RX 580 in November 2023.

Thanks for the info.

I have no idea about what's going on with Apple. Nor why it's the Virtual Apple systems that are going down so much, so fast. Like, why virtual? Are those the fake Apple systems, the once called Hackintosh?

Chinese cybercafés have broken Steam survey again, Simplified Chinese is up by over 30 percentage points, more than doubling their numbers.

Despite that, Intel is only up by 0.4%, so they seem to use a mix of AMD and Intel CPUs. But they all seem to use NVidia GPUs, considering how much they jumped in the survey...

And then Valve fixed a bug in the hardware survey where the amount of VRAM wsan't detected properly.

I appreciate the work you do here, Conina, a lot, but until Valve gets their heads out of their a$$es and actually fixes their survey, all that date is just little more than an illusion.
