Forums - PC - Monthly Steam hardware survey analysis

And the new numbers are out, AMD wins slightly at the GPUs mostly due to the 3 AMD Radeon Graphics categories growing, but also the 7800XT making a nice jump forward.

The latter one is especially interesting as it brings it above the cutoff for the DX12 GPUs... but doesn't show up there, meaning the 7800XT is probably counted as part of the DX8 GPUs on the Steam survey.

I chose alphabetical order to make sure I wouldn't miss it, and sure enough it has a higher percentage than the 6800XT in total but while that one shows up in the DX12 GPU list, the 7800XT doesn't. And I'm pretty sure the same goes for the other 7000 series GPUs and potentially even the 9000 series.

On the CPU side, AMD makes big strides forward, almost 40% now under Windows and 40% in total... but under Linux, Intel actually won over 1% market share, giving it it's best result here in many months.

Blackwell reached a Steam share of 1.04% within 4 months and 1.78% within 5 months.

So I checked how long it took other Nvidia generations to reach 1% and 2% Steam share.

Pascal launch 05/2016 (let's ignore the Titan X), Steam share >1% for the first time 08/2016 -> 3 months
Turing launch 09/2018, Steam share >1% for the first time 02/2019 -> 5 months
Ampere launch 09/2020, Steam share >1% for the first time 01/2021 -> 4 months
Ada-Lovelace launch 09/2022, Steam share >1% for the first time 03/2023 -> 6 months
Blackwell launch 01/2025, Steam share >1% for the first time 04/2025 -> 3 months

Pascal launch 05/2016 (let's ignore the Titan X), Steam share >2% for the first time 09/2016 -> 4 months
Turing launch 09/2018, Steam share >2% for the first time 04/2019 -> 7 months
Ampere launch 09/2020, Steam share >2% for the first time 02/2021 -> 5 months
Ada-Lovelace launch 09/2022, Steam share >2% for the first time 06/2023 -> 9 months
Blackwell launch 01/2025, Steam share >2% for the first time (probably) 06/2025 -> 5 months

New Steam Survey is out, and wonder oh wonder, they finally acknowledge almost all of AMD's RDNA3 GPUs (my 7600S is still missing, for instance) as well as the 9070 and the 9070...GRE, not the XT.

Meanwhile Blackwell making big strides forward and Intel managed to defend the 60% CPU market share under Windows for another month.

Sorry I'm late, was in the hospital for a few days.

I won't pry for details. I'm glad you're well enough to be home again and I wish you a full and speedy recovery, Conina.

As for the results of the survey, the 9070 has 0.08% while the 9070XT has a zero? Yeah, that doesn't look right. But it's Steam and AMD, so it's to be expected.

It's okay if it's late, as long as you feel better now. I hope nothing too major, but no need to tell what you had.

My appendix and I are now divorced, going our separate ways.

Blackwell reached a Steam share of 4.61% within 6 months... as fast as Pascal in 2016!

I checked how long it took other Nvidia generations to reach 4% and 5% Steam share.

Thanks for the numbers, Conina, but man, they're depressing as f*ck.

Seeing Nvidia's worst gen in years, with the most obnoxious and misleading marketing ever, doing those numbers is extremely sad and tells Nvidia that they can do whatever they want that people will still buy their cards no matter what, Extremely sad.

And on AMDs side, I simply don't believe the numbers Steam gives. We've heard from many sources that the RDNA4 cards are selling very well in many markets (Australia, Germany, UK, US, etc.) and yet, the only one showing up in the survery is the 9070? Really? I call BS.

But it's Steam, they've never done a good job when it comes to track AMD cards and they've never been bothered enough about it to fix it, which I can only assume is because they don't care.
