Forums - Gaming - Wii's ability?

Lets see how Factor 5 does with there new game. We know that they will push the system further then any third party maybe even Nintendo themselves.

Just last night I popped in Rogue Leader on the gamecube and dam did they do such a great job. It blows away most of the games on the wii in both graphics and gameplay. That maybe the real test to see the true power of the Wii.

Someone needs to put up some screens of Rogue Leader.

Yeah. After rereading the original post, I'm a little confused. Are you saying that the Wii looks last gen, or are you saying that the Wii is near PS3/360 levels? I want to argue, but I don't know what we're arguing about. You make me miss my fiance.
No what I'm saying is that in another thread it was posted as saying the Wii > PS2/GC era gap in graphics was about the same as PS360 > Wii. My point is it isnt. Nowhere near. Look at Oblivion and PGR3. Those are First gen PS360 games. No Wii game will ever get near those. My point is people who own wii's should stop trying to want the graphics the same. If they wanted Graphics why did they buy a Wii. Wii's are for pure enjoyment with friends, at that it excels so well. Stop trying to change it into something it will never be.

Err, mmm, galaxy development started in the GC dev kits, most of his dev time was on a GC dev kid...

Edit: and if you try to prove how big is the gap between the Wii, "the PS2/GC" and "the HD consoles", why don't put some PS2 1st gen games too???

By me:

"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

I think this whole graphics debate is pretty much a moot point unless you have a HDTV display. Any system is gonna look kinda lousy in 480i even ps3. Now that said, yes the graphics are superior on ps360 vs the Wii. However, I remember the day I unboxed my ps1 about 10 years ago (yes i was a late adopter) and being blown away cuz my previous best graphical experience had been Sega Genesis. I also remember seeing NHL 2002 at a friends house for the first time on a PS2 and being similarly blown away vs my experience on the ps1. But for some reason this gen when i compare ps2 and especially the GCN to Wii and PS3 (only systems i have had any time with) i haven't had that whole "sweet crap this is incredible" experience.

IDK if I've just become jaded, but it is my suspicion that there is a tipping point in which systems running at about 1ghz in which you just can't tell a difference on 480i anymore due to the limits of the screen. This worry's me for the 8th gen systems, cuz eventually the detail will reach a level where the human eye won't be able to tell the difference anymore.

Plus, games to have any greater level of detail will have even longer programing times, I remember when getting 3 to 4 sequels in a generation was not unheard of (Sonic, Mario). Now FF XIII is taking upwards of 3 years to program, and who even knows if FF XIV will even be on ps3 hardware.

Kickin' Those Games Old School.       -       201 Beaten Games And Counting

I think most people are angry at the fact that developers aren't really giving an effort with the Wii, graphics wise. I can't think of one third party developed game that pushes the Wii hardware. Nintendo has done it at least twice, maybe three times already. It isn't a huge leap forware from last gen, and i've yet to see an Wii game look better than the top of the crop of the original Xbox, but it's still a jump from the Gamecube.

There are however people on this site that look at stillshots of future games for the Wii that look very impressive and don't see it's not going to look that good in motion. They'll make comments that they swear it's PS3/360 quality and sound foolish even bring that up. Then we have the same crowd that sees a mediocre looking 360/PS3 title in screenshots and swear it could be done just like that on the Wii. Again, straight foolishness.

I think most people here are levelheaded and understand that the Wii is in another category graphics-wise from the PS3 and 360, and should probably be directly compared to the Xbox to judge quality.

I got flamed pretty bad and ridiculed when I brought up the issue of Super Mario Galaxy and Sunshine looking similar (especially in the Sunshine levels that didn't have a pastel color scheme) in the days leading up to and during Galaxy's launch.

I've also noticed the same thing with Mario Kart Wii in that it's not much of a leap (if any) from what was seen on the Gamecube. I just couldn't be bothered to bring it up until now since I didn't feel like enduring the same hostility and denial again.

The second flaw is the choice of screenshots. Why choose games from Ubisoft and EA to showcase the Wii, while showing screens of Kameo, PGR3, Motorstorm etc.? Pick at least something like Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Wii.

I say replace the Red Steel and NFS screens with Cruis'n and Bomberman '93. It would've made his point so much stronger.

@Legend11 Have you ever played those games? The screens can look a bit similar, but the difference is very noticeable while in action.

Who the hell cares about graphics. If you enjoy a game because it has good graphics then you are really pathetic. Should ocarina of time simply be cast aside because it isn't as flashy as Twilight princess or MGS2 because MGS4 looks nicer.

it really is pointless, we just have to accept the fact that the wii is a sytem that is underpowered some games will look great, but it will never be to the level of 360/ps3

Kameo graphically owns every single Wii game ever. Games like God of War 2 and Resident Evil 4 kick many Wii games in the balls. Doesn't matter. As everyone knows, that's not what the Wii is about. I agree with ya, selnor!
